okay so i was a little too fucked up when i read the original post
(not that I think most people will read that )
Anyways, what I was trying to say (that got pretty misconstrued) was that I had this generalization in my head when I was younger, and that I still think about it from time to time.

all of my friends are into cars. anyone who's not into cars is considered an acquaintance, and not as high of a priority as the first group (except for very few select females, friends will get ditched for those females)

i've always been a petrolhead. Never even considered it possible to not be one. I can't comprehend why anyone wouldn't modify their car. Its not that expensive (depending on the mod), its fun, you learn shit, you're not completely clueless about why your car is making that funny noise, you may even have a bit of fun on that long boring commute you complain so much about.

i always have, and always will love driving. The tool i use isn't whats important, whats important is that i am able to enjoy using that tool. that being said, i haven't daily'd a bmw in over 2 years, so i'm not enjoying the drive as much as i would in my old e28, but i still manage to have good (possibly illegal) fun every day on my commute.

if you're worried that your love of cars will make people not like you or think you're weird, they probably aren't the kind of people you need in your life.

I hate talking to ignorant people about cars. You cannot have a conversation with them.

My buddy makes fun of me because I am always on r3v.

I read and learn, and it shows when we talk about cars. Always correcting him.

Actually my buddies and I were talking about the persona that is the "car guy" and how we are a dying breed. I am into cars and have been since I was a kid (building models, going to car shows, etc) as are a majority of my friends ( well close ones) the lot of which are e30 owners as well. However the older I get the more people I find aren't into cars, know little to nothing about their own car and have no real interest in learning. I find it odd that a male in his 20's isn't into cars in someway shape or form. To me its just part of being a guy, something my dad taught me. Perhaps we ARE the weird ones... I think we really are a dying breed

I am a car guy, have been for oh,23 years or so. everyone who knows me, knows what I am into.
I find other car people can sometimes piss me off more than Non-car people when they regurgitate untrue stats, false info and all that.

I honestly don't have time for people who would actually have an argument over "not getting the car thing" I honestly would give not a single fuck about their opinion.

as far as the forum goes, I try to relay an anecdote from r3v from time to time, but without having the context or a feel for the r3v dynamic they people just wouldn't get it...so r3v is kind of a "retreat" for me.

It would never cross my mind to be ashamed of it, it isn't like I am talking or reading about goat porn, or pearly penile papules on a car site or shit...oh wait.shit

Yes. A lot the these last posts really sum up what I was trying to say.

I was at an Audi guys house helping a friend install coilovers on his b5 a4 and this guy has a completely stripped b5 shell he's planning on slappinga a big turbo vr6 in and his two college aged neighbors came over to borrow something and they were definitely amazed/impressed that he was planning on putting every little thing back into thise completely bare shell.

With that being said, I don't think this hoppy is one that is being looked down upon at all.

Unless they know me pretty well, people generally have no idea how much I love cars. I keep it pretty hidden mostly because the people I hang with now as I get older have no freakin clue about cars. I don't think some of them could even comprehend why someone would even be into cars. We connect on different things but I leave cars out of it.

I wake up excited to drive my car, go to work and get paid to talk about cars all day long, come home and go cruising with my friends to the local car meets/track and finally come home to lurk r3v and a few other car sites in the evenings.

It would be pretty hard to hide that.
