All my friends make fun of me for taking a year off before going to college to work on my 4 (now 5) cars. A few of them kinda know about cars, and 2 of them actually drive e30s. If I'm not playing soccer, I'm working on one of my cars. Everyone knows those are my two passions. My friends who judged me for it or had a problem with it aren't really my friends anymore.

What it feels like owning an e30:

Im the kid at school that some people know as "the dude whose car is always on jackstands"

Lol whatever haters gonna hate right? I talk about my e30 way too much, but who cares. Its a fun topic. My best friend can identify most parts on the are now and what transmissions came in what, etc. Its funny kind of. He wants an e30 now too.

That said, Id rather be into cars over other shit, its a good life skill

          Closet is too cramped.

My profile pic is me cruising in my e30 and 90% of the posts on my page are e30 or car related. What's the deal with trying to hide it?

I am absolutely not ashamed of my love for cars, especially e30s. Im known for that. If someone dosent like it, they can shove it. I save myself money and keep myself from getting ripped off at repair shops. We all do this to express ourselfs in different ways. Kind of like how girls shop for shit. They do it to express themselfs.

There is no reason to hide who YOU really are. There is no point in lying to everyone making them believe youre someone that youre not. If they dont accept you for that, then they were never you friends to begin with. Simple as that.
You should always surround yourself with people who accept you for who you are.

              Im fucking Dr. Phil.
I don't even own this car anymore, but I'm too lazy to change the picture.

This is kinda how I treat it I have friends who like cars know models and stuff like that but don't know shit about how they really work, then I have friends who do, those are the only one I really get into deep discussions about it with. I never really bring it up in convo unless someone else does, One of my idiot friends tried to tell me he could beat me around a track in his jetta then I started saying things like, my torque is higher at lower RPMs, higher final drive and closer gearing, rear wheel drive, a limited slip diff and better suspension geometry and thats where I lost him. He would just say shit like but I have more hp, which is why I hate talking about cars with the general public.

edit- I do use it on girls some times just saying things like I drive a BMW convertible will make a shallow girls panties drop

My friend tried to convince me that his '93 e36 was sooo far superior to my car because it's newer, and he said "It's an auto and a manual because there's a button. I have no clue how to use it though." and he was convinced it was a fucking auto and a manual because there's a fucking A/M button on the center console. This dipshit missed his drain pan when changing his oil. People like that are the reason I generally hate talking about cars.

But e36s will beat e30s easy... straight line, around a track, etc.

There are automatics thats full manual shift.... I've had a few myself. Not saying that the e36 is one. But just saying such things are out there.

I feel as if I need to chime in here. I have no family members that are into cars (im 17 btw) other than an uncle or two. I go to an expensive liberal private prep school in the city, they know nothing. And here is me, Ive always loved cars, they are my passion and life. Some people around me don't give a fucking shitwad about cars, some know a bit, and some of my friends respect my mechanical tendencies. I've someone truly tries to give me a hard time for being passionate about cars, they can go fuck themselves, but I really don't care. Everyone has cars, they wouldn't exist without people like us. Its one of those hobbies/passions/interests in which you can really contribute to society.

That wasn't his point at all. All he had was that "it's newer than your car". Oh and he paid 1/3 what I paid for mine so that probably tells you something about it

This was to 5toes btw since there were like 2 new posts as I was writing this post
