it really wasn't in 1976 though. and it was less socially frowned upon the longer back you go.

pretty common to have the cop "follow you back to your place" when he caught you to drunk to drive in the 60's and early 70's from what I have heard/seen.

cop stopping someone in 2012, over the limit, and not only allowing them to DRIVE home, but giving them a courtesy escort?

    not on your life lol.

kind of like how I can remember smoking on Airplanes and IN schools...lol

Hey quit it with the context and being reasonable...I'm trying to judge a stranger here!

Although I do stand behind what I said about drunk driving being a terribly irresponsible thing to do, I guess the perception was different.

my father in law's best friend was pulled over for tailgaiting a cop on 101 near san francisco. cop told him to go get coffee. he then proceeded to release the hood lever instead of the emergency brake. cop came back, closed the hood, and waved goodbye.

yea, I heard many stories of "the old days" it just wasn't as big of a deal.

my attitudes toward intoxicated driving are pretty hard core now, and I guess it is because I have kids and that is a big perspective changer. the more you have to lose the less you are willing to wager right?

I mean, I would not consider drinking anything and driving now, between a lifetime of education and the ever growing punishments it just isn't worth the risk.

but I might point out due to 30 years of social engineering, the real reason people D&D less now is not so much the risk of killing someone while driving drunk, but the stigma of being the douche with a DUI,

oh yes I did say that out loud...

I agree. Not saying it's right, but it is true.
