    Supermoto?

Anyone here ever built a supermoto bike? Came up as a random idea today and now I seriously want one. I'm thinking of taking a relatively cheap 250 or 450 four stroke and doing a conversion...

    ^^^ I want that...

I wouldn't bother with a 250 if you have ridden a bike before.

    Nice bike though.

That's what I was thinking. I've ridden dirt bikes for a number of years. No street experience, though, besides common sense. I would definitely look into licenses, classes and the likes. The bike would be for around town/campus commuting and trail riding with dirt tires obviously.

I had an xr250, which I quickly outgrew and have been rocking a 2001 rm125. I love the power band, it is exhilarating. Dirt is a different story than street though. A 125 is all I would ever need for offroad.

I have my motorcycle license, and the only size bike I would consider is a 400+. You willing be pinning it on a 250 just to go freeway speeds.

            ^ So cool!!!

How much would you say you have invested into that bike? Also...wheels and tires, where would/did you source them?

Yeah I know exactly what you mean. However, the town I go to school in...the interstate is only used to get to the next city, so I can easily, easily avoid it. And, the fastest speed limit around town is 45... With that being said I would definitely still look for a 450 exclusively.

I actually got a pretty good deal on the bike and it was already street legal. I'd say I have 4k into it. Motostrano is a nice supermoto site, check there for all of your wants.

The R is not necessarily a good "road" bike. Lots of vibrations, LOTS of maintenance, gas mileage = not so good, etc. If you're looking at a Honda for the road, get the X instead.

What kind of maintenance do you mean?

Oil changes every 5 hours of riding, trans fluid change, filters, valve adjustments

                    I would LOVE a Supermoto.

However, I know that I would get myself arrested and lose my license in short order with one.

I miss having two wheels in the garage.

I had a Rmz250f and that was more then plenty on the road. It's still a dirt bike at heart so of course it Sony be good on the highway. Honda Xrs or whatever they are called now are cool but also heavy and ain't half as cool as their Cr counterparts.

Oil change every 5 hours is a bit excessive.

I know that feel on shimming the valves though.
