My last 3 builds have all been AMD. Good value for the money in my opinion. Never felt "bottle necked" in any applications.
5-$700 area is usually where I end up on most of my builds.

Im actually waiting on update plans until ZEN releases for that very reason, AMD has been focusing pretty hard on GPU market the past few years because Intel makes it really hard to be competitive.Leave a comment:

I'll check it out for sure.
Most of my reading lately points to AMD being "stagnant" in their chip design.
This build may go Intel.Leave a comment:

All it is really is a database that looks up part prices from different retailers, and allows you to put together a build of items to see the costs and power draw, etc. Its not actually a retailer.Leave a comment:

To build on my statement heres some examples:
https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/xfmPx...-960-gaming-pc This is probably the most popular $500 pc build right now, You can also switch out the I5 for a FX-8320 and a AM3+ board if you like AMD more, but the I5 will outperform it.
http://i.imgur.com/E7mEHNZ.png This is something id consider a great average middle of the line build, will max most games at 60fps 1080p, some even at 1440p.
and bonkers builds are everywhere, pc partpicker is filled with them.
Pc partpicker is new to me.
I've always been a NewEgg/Tiger Direct kinda guy.Leave a comment:

Whats your budget, You can build a great budget PC for around $600. Or a decent haswell rig is like 800-1200 which is mid range in my opinion.Leave a comment:

I've been outta the PC building loop for awhile.
Current rig
AMD phenom dual core
Asus board
GTO 250 or 260 video card
4 gigs ram
500 gig hard drive
Windows 7 premium
I may hand this box down to my step son
I've been doing some online reading on current gen stuff......man I'm behind!!!
Any suggestions?
I may do some gaming on the next box as wellLeave a comment:

It should be quiet enough in that case, doesnt have a ton of fan vents like most. But yeah, also get one for the cool factor lol.Leave a comment:

Nice! I love NZXT's cable shield thingy. Only thing I would change is maybe add an air cooler for the cpu. It would run quieter and look great in that window.Leave a comment:

Yeah, it was fun learning how to get the OS X on there. Need to get the graphics card drivers going.

I laugh at this statement. Are we building all-in-ones based off a ~200-300 watt PSU? You know the cost of the LCD by itself??? 5k Retina is ~$900
You are doing a completely different build with a non-mobile GFX card and most likely better spec'd processor. The computer you build as a hackintosh WILL outperform the AIO.

Oh for sure. 1/4 of the cost. There are so many video editor guys I know that got dumped by apple when the sunsetted FCP and a real tower. Switched to a osx86 and never connect to the internet on their editing rig other then through drop box and such.Leave a comment:

cool, what will the specs be on this when done?? I've been debating about building a new desktop to dual boot osx and windows since I've been do a lot more demanding things for school like autocad, inventor, ect. My current desktop is kinda on its way out. One of the ram slots on the board crapped out so I only have a 4GB stick in it, no graphics card, and the AMD processor in it isn't great either.
I have an old Dell xps m1530 that's running osx 10.10 currently everything works on it perfectly. I must have started to play with hackintosh stuff 5+ years ago in high school and had 10.6 working great. Definitely a fun project. Plus it's really nice to have osx for photo editing stuff which was the main reason I did it.
hackintosh has come a long way since I started to mess around with it. It's gotten a lot easier and more reliable from when I started to mess with it. It's pretty funny building a computer almost twice as fast for half the cost of an Imac and still running osx.Leave a comment:
