For those of you that don't know, I've been working for just over a year now as a roof build lead at a manufactured home production facility. I like the job, it keeps me in shape, and it's indoors. They pay's not too bad either. A few weeks ago, I applied for an opening in Quality Control. Today, after 3 weeks and 3 interviews, one with the general manager of the plant, I got the job!
I was so excited, mainly because I beat out 2 other people who in my eyes, were more qualified for the job than me. I was told that I got it because I made an impression on the lead director of the department, and because of my willingness to learn the industry and move up the ranks in the plant.
Basically, what I'll be is an inspector. Going around to all of the sections as they are built throughout different stages of production in the plant, inspecting checklists, checking to see that things are being done correctly, and finding mistakes, and making sure they are taken care of. I'm pretty stoked because not only will I be learning about almost every facet of production that our homes go through, but I'll also be learning all of the state building codes for Oregon, as well as many of the other states that our homes are sent to. Not to mention a decent pay raise, I make $11.50 right now. I'll also be getting a quarterly bonus, and the best part is, I won't be held to the production schedule anymore, which will make things a lot less stressful.
