I'm not sure if it is the brushless one. All I know is it cost him ~$250.

I think the brushless one is 279.99 with out tax. Battery's are 50-60 and chargers are 120. Should take him easily with that. Wheelie bars are like 10-15.

I would still say Slash. Even though there are dealers I doubt they stock as many parts as you can find for the Slash.

Exactly this. For just playing around and bashing in your yard or even trying out a track then the Slash is great. If you get serious about racing you're going to want to build something else.

Thanks for the input you guys. There's a few Slash VXL's for sale used in my area, I think I'll go that direction when I'm ready.

Whatever you get make sure it's 4x4. Brushless 2wd trucks can be a challenge to control.

This is true, but if you have any interest in racing, I highly recommend 2wd. 4wd stadium truck classes tend to be a demolition derby, while the 2wd classes, while much more challenging, are much cleaner.

That's because it takes a lot of skill to run a 4x2 truck around a track. I've been doing this for a few years and still can't do it well, that's why I recommended a 4x4 to get started at least.

I think I'm going to stick 2wd. I kinda want it to slide everywhere. They're also cheaper.

Don't fool yourself, 4x4 brushless setups can be mighty hard to control. Mine will slide anywhere I want it to.

If you wanna slide then get a setup like mine and some road tires when you wann go in a straight line.

Hpi sprint 2 with a traxxas velineon brushless motor and hobby wing esc. paired with a 2s 5000 mah lipo the thing scoots (BTW unless you get a slash that was made bushless afterward it will have a velineon in it)

Honestly start with stadium truck 2wd or buggy 2wd. If you don't build skills and consistency there, your skills will develop slower.

I'm never intending to race guys, this will be just messing around in between run groups when I'm at the track with the shop I work and and whenever I'm bored at home. Driving skills will take a back seat to fun.

Then get an Hpi sprint and put a brushless system in it. They are amazing for drifting and fast with road tires.

Got board today so I built this truck I had laying around

I had a Losi LST2 and messed up the transmission being young and curious as to how it worked... Pulled it apart and messed it all up so we sold it for a hundred bucks.. Wish I would have kept it. Really want a SC10 or a Losi short course truck. Seems that class is absolutely taking off at our local track.. It's not much but it would be fun to have something to go hoon around a dirt track.
