BMI is very inaccurate, it does not account for muscle mass. I am 2 points from being obese by those standards. My doctor even states that reads from a BMI are false based on that alone. I was sub 200s around 19-20 and my doctor said I needed to gain weight because I was too thin for my frame.

Just saying; a chart online that bases your weight to your height, is not useful. I feel bad for the normal humans, with muscle mass that have to be bound by those implements.

This. I was ~6% body fat and just shy of obese on the chart.

A buddy and I have a running monthly bet going, flat fee to the winner + $1 per pound lost more than the other person. So far it's been good for both of us, and the last weigh in was decided by 0.8 lbs. Not a lot of money changing hands, but still good motivation and short term goals.

        I'm well aware of that.

Fact is, I don't really have a choice. The also will be testing for blood sugar, cholesterol and something else in your blood. They are also going to start doing swaps for smokers/tobacco, they already started charging more for tobacco users last year (fair enough).

I'm wondering how long it will be until they start wanting to know what you're eating, how much alcohol have you drank this month, etc.

I understand that, not arguing with you over it. Just stating for healthy people that work out, it is not fair to them.

Yet people on Welfare do not need to be screened for drugs or have any of this stupid BMI for health care, that is a whole other subject.

Down to 166, still gaining a bit of muscle, especially in my legs since I've started running pretty regularly. Hadn't been to the gym for like 2 weeks until this morning, now weight 3lb less than last time I weighed in there. Not losing much muscle if any. Trying to get lean for the summer, I'll start winter bulking on my birthday in October.

We had a wellness program at work for a while that measured the same thing. I'm a big boy, not really fat, probably 17-20% bf.....but I did powerlifting and workout in the gym 4-5 times a week. I have a lot of muscle on my frame......when they measured my BMI I was morbidly obese according to their schedule for my height and weight..... I have been 6' and about 240 for the last 5-6 years.....according to them I should weigh 182lbs.

I haven;t weighed that since I was in JR. high.

Enough people in the company complained and they dropped that program.

they do this at my work. I have the beginnings of a six pack now, but my BMI says I'm obese. They don't raise your health care by your BMI because the doctor says BMI is bullshit. They do raise it for smoking though, but if you sign up for a program to stop they don't make you pay extra.

p.s. blood pressure was the last one you missed there Z3 :)

This is what I want to do. I just simply don't take the time to lift enough to get much for gains. My new clean diet alone is enough to allow me to drop fat, but I'm doing more active/athletic things which is also helping a lot.

I have never been a large person. Senior year of high school I was 150 lbs. This is the most I have ever weighed and I am at 91% lean mass. Just slightly change your life, if a change is too drastic you will usually burn out.

                          I'm 6'1" and 180. Trying to drop to 170 by the 21st.

Diet is grilled chicken, eggs, and cabbage.
Lifted for a couple days while on this and remembered how much I love it.

Down to only 175, but body fat dropped considerably - down to 16% from 21%. Strength increased noticeably, but I feel a lot lighter even though I only lost 5 lbs.

Added sweet potatoes and brown rice into diet - more energy to work out and better results. Also started drinking milk quite a bit more.

just remember it's 80% diet 20% train to see results. Been going to same gym for 3 years now and all the heavier people still looks the same, why? because they probably still pig out.

                                Truth.

Also helps to go to the gym more than just twice a week. Some people worry about over training but then again some don't even go enough or when they are there they don't push themselves at all.

Last month I was going to my HIIT class 3-4 times a week, but missed nearly a week being out of town and working. Trying to go 5-6 times a week this month. I like the workouts, reminds me of Insanity but with weights and other things mixed in.

My gym has challenges every other month or so, and at any time you can check your progress. I find it funny they have a BMI box that they leave blank on the card that you can keep track of your progress with. They themselves don't believe in it or trust it. They care about fat vs muscle. In addition to weight and measurements, they calculate: BF %, Muscle Weight, Visceral Fat, and Metabolic age. I was a little under weight when I started, but still pretty healthy. I was already eating pretty healthy but I'm impressed with the changes being this is only my third month. Only real change to my diet is I'm taking in more protein. Finally feel committed to a routine after starting and stopping workouts at home. I'll be Benjamin Button'ing it, probably be metabolically six with single digit BF% in another three to six months.
