Asked about utilites because of the amount of trees on property. Wise choice. Less of an issue of branches taking out wires.

Septic and Leech fields can get pricey and good to hear you have town water as sinking a well gets very expensive and have to consider the leeching field location in regards to a well.

True. A lot of trees will disappear. Was thinking of running everything straight back through the adjacent field and over to the house so the roots would be less of an issue. I have no plans on letting go of the land.

didn't read through whole thing, just saw plans on second page. Lose the walls to the left when you walk in and make an island in kitchen not a bar, will flow better.

If I ever live on any large piece of property, I plan to have a little racetrack as a driveway... Might aggravate people that just want to get to my house, but it'd be fun for me so that's all that counts :D

Maybe down the line. Gonna leave the basement unfinished for now. Finished basement = more in personal property tax. ;)

I know the nice shop with a lift is there... but if it were me there is no way in hell I would be moving so close to me parents -- or any family for that matter.

Other than that, sounds fun. If it were me I would be doing as much of the work as I possibly could. If you don't know how to do something, use this as an opportunity to learn. Also, put in provisions for later development (like adding a basement but not finishing it)... doesn't inflate initial cost as much as it will save you when you go to do things later on.

Meh, my family is alright. I'll pretty much end up with everything in the yellow anyways, so I may as well stick around and help maintain it. Plus too, I couldn't find anything but shitbox houses around here for sale.

Second paragraph definitely. I'm a big DIYer who likes to learn along the way. We're already planning things to do after building, but for now we want a structure to live in.
