WHO needs the penny? NO ONE!

so, its been almost a year now since Canada phased out the penny.

cash transactions ONLY, get rounded to the nearest nickel. and all debit and credit purchases remain unchanged.

what are your thoughts if the US did away with the penny as well??

It costs more to make a penny than a penny is worth.

I agree. Pennies are out dated. Also, why can't we include tax in the price of the items? In Europe, everything was even prices, and you paid what was displayed on the shelf. It was nice.

thats why the govt did away with them, it was costing so much to make them.
I have gotten used to the rounding. and I like it.

Yeah, I'm fine with phasing them out, they are pretty well useless.

right now it costs more to make most change that its worth, might as well toss out the nickel and the dime while your at it. Why do you think we keep getting new lighter weight coinage, the old nickel is worth about 7 cents in melt value. Go to a state with out a sales tax, and you will pay the price on the shelf. its why I hate it after I spend more than a week or 2 at home, when I go to where ever I have to for work everything is sales taxed and annoying. ................

I like my coinage, leave it alone.

Jesus, it has been a year? I didn't even notice really...but +1 on adding in sales tax, it actually makes me angry every time I see the difference between shelf price and out the door price.

It's really sad to be honest. Just goes to show how little purchasing power the CAD and USD has these days in comparison to 20 years ago

Soon we'll be tossing out the nickels and dimes too.

                          sad really....oh well

It doesn't really affect me, I use plastic for pretty much everything except paying off my tab at work or going out drankin'

It is convenient on the occasion I have change though.

New Zealand hasn't had anything smaller than a 10c coin since 2006. Hasn't really seen us descend into madness. Also, our noted money is different colours to note different denomination, madness!
