I use both. It's kind of weird. I say "I-5", not "the I-5", but say "the 405" not "405". Really, I only don't use "the" with I-5.

Around here, most prople just refer to them by the number "75" "275", etc. Some use the "I" in front of it, but never "the 75" or "the I-75".
In Florida, I know a lot of British people there and they refer to all numbered roads with "the" in front of them - such as "the 192"Current Cars2014 M235i2009 R56 Cooper S1998 M31997 M3Comment

If I remember correctly there is one in hawaii, H-1 or something. Not really an interstate, but a federal highway.Originally posted by BENdashdashDon't you have a few interstates in Oahu?

I always say the I-5 (and so does everyone I know), and I'm a fair bit more north than most of you :PComment

Dave, I'd guess it's because the highways in the UK start with letters. You take the M1 versus you take M1.Originally posted by DaveCNIn Florida, I know a lot of British people there and they refer to all numbered roads with "the" in front of them - such as "the 192"The BMW 318 is back.
