When I disagree with someone in person, I call them a bitch and punch them in the face. It makes me a big bad man and I'm so cool when I do it. Some people have given up this style when they left middle school, but they're just pussies...
Kids with cars have been doing stupid stuff since the automobile became cheap enough to give to the young'uns. F&F and the "Fast" commercials arn't influencing teen behaviour, they merely mimick and capitalize on those urges.

You're very much right here. And also about the BMW ads, even the ads for the M cars never show reckless driving. Even when they're driving fast.
what about those BMW films? I remember quite a few with dangerous driving... I don't think jumping an M5 in downtown traffic is very safe ;)
and jesus, you people take these VW ads way too seriously. If you think an ad made people act like idiots on the road, or a movie, you really need to re-think that. I suppose music with "bad" lyrics suggested to kids that they should shoot up their school too?
People are idiots, regardless of their media "influences" they will do idiotic things. Street racing was around long before movies about it or ads.

Are you completely unaware of the dramatic popularization and increase in street racing following F&F, especially in So-Cal. Sure, there was some already there, but F&F made it mainstream and spread it out to so many more people.
As far as lyrics, I think censorship is bullshit, and if parents are worried about their kids being corrupted, they aren't being proper parents and instilling into them good morales. Of course, bad music, violent movies are counter-productive, as are commericals like these, but parents have influence on their kids.... if they care enough to do something to help raise them. The bad news is in my view, the odds are beginning to stack up against the parents these days. I have no desire to attempt to raise a child in these times, so let's hope I'll not have to try anytime soon.
The problem is, no one is out there to frown on reckless driving, street racing, or dangerous decisions in the car, and only negative influences.
Popularization of street racing and other influences were part of the reason our CCA's former president's son was killed in a street-racing accident this past summer.
Maybe he could have made his son know it was dangerous more, but the society's influence and peer pressure are strong... as everyone is going down the moral drain and into moronic practices, the society as a whole is doing down with them.
Cramer, you are in the small percentage of this site who I actually respect, and for that reason, and in the ideal of a good discussion, I do respect your views and opinions. However, I do not believe all people are "idiots". The proportion of intelligent, average, and subpar intelligences probably has not shifted that much, but the education and influence of our society most likely has in the information age involving rise of magazines, television, and now the internet.
The proper dissemination of wisdom and moral thought has been hurt by parents being at work full time and the corrupting influences have found an increase in power and voice. Proproganda encouraging giving into one's inner temptation to drive fast is just another straw on the camel's back... when will our society completely crumple into a pathetic mess?
I totally agree on the parenting issue, kids who act out with no concept of the consequences, don't have parents who instilled good values in them. It's not saying kids won't do stupid things, but they should at least know they are doing something stupd. I am amazed at some of the younger generation who have no respect for others or themselves and absolutely no clue right from wrong... it's like everything is a grey area to them... and of course they are not responsiblel for their own actions... TV made me do it, or movies, or music.. this is why I brought up the influences that truely shouldn't be influences. Again, I guess if good parenting was more wide spread, we'd be having a different discussion ;)
