I know this is going to sound stupid, but study hard. AND GO TO CLASS! My biggest mistake was goofing off, sleeping until noon, never studying, and wasting too much time on this forum first semester.
And of course, PLAY HARD too, duh. You only get to experience college once, a surreal environment full of young horny students your age, parties, and campus life.
Next year will be my Junior year in a nerdy version of Management and Finance. A raging alcoholic in my friends' eyes, but still have a 3.6 culm GPA.

College is work....never loose sight of that and do the best you can. Of course there are all the social aspects of it as well so you shouldn't deny yourself of a good time. Just don't do anything so crazy you wind up on collegehumor.com. Unless you have plans for grad school, enjoy your ride in academia......responsibility of a job and whatnot afterwards can suck unless you land a gig doing something you enjoy and make a good living at it.

Heeter is right, y'all. I always make a point to goto class. If I don't listen to the prof. - which happens - I can use the time to take notes from the book. It forces you do to work... what else are you going to do in that time period?
Don't worry if your first semesters are rough and shitty. You're adjusting, and I can tell you that my next year is going to be seriously better than anything that happened this year. Don't let it overwhelm you either. You're adjusting, and it's a good time. The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

washington state is in the middle of no where. Their sports programs suck. I've not heard many good things about it. Bassically, all there is to do there is get hammered. Now, that's completely OK, but it's either getting hammered at one of two local bars, or having high-school esque apartment/house parties. I'd rather be somewhere that might have more of a social scene.PNW Crew

Originally posted by permitTake advantage of all the fun you're going to have at college. Fuck classes, don't study, and keep believing that homework is a joke. You'll still graduate.
there's only a thin line which is your weak degree seperating you from the unskilled high school graduates... and they have the same skills at a cheaper price. Hence why my friend who graduated a year ago with no practical experience and in History/French is still boozing and unemployed.
In this era, technology is replacing unskilled labor and it is only fair to you to get as good as an education as possible. And people who are conceptual and intelligent and know a lot will have to do far less bitch work than those who can only answer phones or push paper, or push a broom. And leadership/interpersonal skillls are growingly important so join student organizations.
And it's who you know sometimes, not what you know, so be sure to have a large network of friends.... and not just your fuckup slacker drunk/high friends, they might not really come in handy.
