Bluebird Bus Conversion Project & Cross Country Trip
Screw you slammin! why doesn't anyone want to come to richmond?
That looks like a seriously badass trip. what are your plans for the bus after you're done with the trip?
I hope to be able to keep the bus after we get home, maybe remodel it and make it into an actual tiny home. Maybe just sell it if I can't afford to keep it
I wish. It's my birthday the 21st, lol. Probably not going to be able to swing it though.....unless I get the wagon going and just camp in it....helluva drive though.
Here is a rough outline of the first leg of our trip. Hopefully we are able to get to all these areas, these are places we have talked about visiting for a long time now. Also, if any of you guys are along our route we would love to meet up for a beer, especially if there is a brewery around
If after Chi-town you want to come all the way up to the Keweenaw Peninsula in the UP. I'm more than happy to show you around the quaint little mining area in the middle of vast wilderness and give you a place to park/recharge/water up/get some great food. My driveway should be plenty big enough.
I did do something very similar after all, and would love to share stories ;)
Also, we do have breweries. And beer. Lots and lots of beer.
again, this is dope! if i ever decide to move back east, im going to pick up an old window licker short bus and do it that way
btw, what is that dual sport your riding around on? looks like a neat lil bike
Thanks man! I originally was going to get a short bus but this one came up for like less than half te price and I didn't have to paint it :D
The bike is a 2008 Yamaha XT250 dual sport. Fun little dirt bike to buzz around on. A little small for much freeway riding but awesome for back roads, and it is small enough I can roll it up on the carrier

That sounds great man, we will definitely take you up on that offer if we can fit it in :)
jakes in a great spot, that not many people have ever been or even heard of. Only place in that state I would ever consider living again let alone visit with out a proverbial firearm to my head

If you're going through Detroit there are a few on the north side in warren Michigan that I would hit up, primarily Kuhnhenn and Dragonmead. If you are into the stranger stuff there are a few Meaderies in Ferndale Michigan Schramm and B Nektar which I have had things from that were both very good. If you go into Grand Rapids definitely find your way to Brewery Vivant and founders. If you go north of Holland you can go as shorts as 20 minutes and hit Oddside which always has some fun stuff but if you wanted to go all the way to Traverse City there are like 6-7 breweries there that are awesome including Shorts. In Holland New Holland Brewery is pretty good, I know one fo the brewers there from high school, then two doors down from there is a place called Our Brewery that doesn't serve food but has good beer.
All those above are fine and dandy places to visit but there are two bits I strongly recommend. First is probably a little out of your way, it is in Marshall Michigan, place is called Darkhorse that is probably one of my favorite breweries in the country and just a cool place to visit. The other is on your way to Chicago off 94 there is a place call Three Floyds Brew and pub, the place is really cool with good food and beer.
I could keep going and give you a month of breweries and places to hit in Michigan alone but those are a good start.

This is great info, thanks so much for sharing! We have heard that there is a big craft beer scene in Michigan, we are really excited to checking out. At this point I think we are planing on spending a whole week just checking out MI.
Make sure you pop across the bridge onto PEI since you'll be so close! Definitely worth checking out the national park / secluded beaches near blooming point off the side roads (macdonald road, i think it was. No tourists at all and you can just park at the base of the dune). Also Basin Head is pretty nice!
