Sorry If I came of ignorant or a smart ass, but by me doing that I think I got the best response out of you since you were defending yourself.
I'm just very interested in economics/finance since I really want to do something in the business world. I know those two majors are perfect if you are planning in going into business or even starting your own business. It's just I've been told that those majors are hard to get a job in after you graduate. ....
"I'm not paying for you to get a BS degree"
“That’s what your uncle majored in now look at him… he’s a painter!”
I guess it just comes down to what I want to do. I used to want to become a scientist like my dad (chemist) or maybe go into computer science, but I’ve realized unless you are REALLY smart its hard to get anywhere in those fields. You get stuck working for a company that sucks you dry, giving you a measly income every year while you profit them millions of dollars (like my father does). He always complains about money and what not. So I’ve been telling myself, why go through all that hard work in college to get that chemistry degree only to be stuck in the rat race the rest of my life? I know there is easy money to be made in the business world if you know what your doing and are willing to make a few educated risks.
1) have the school you're going to pay for your tution/education. it's tight. both schools I applied to gave me phat scholarships
2) a lot of engineers go THROUGH FUCKING HELL. and half get out there to be doing the same painful torture in the real world. my dad was a ME and left the industry to sell real estate, as did my old boss at a different RE agency.
3) engineering, as i told scott314, an engineer, isn't neccessarily filled with geniuses. I know a LOT of dumb engineers at my school, but what they do have is work/study ethic. they abuse themselves into memorizing shit and drawing free-body diagrams. and that's what the present system is producing... fucking formula monkeys and that's it
4) a lot of people have trouble in accounting/business stats courses. i'm logical, a critical thinker, and fucking took the same math/sciences as my engineering peers have. I fucking pwn the mgmt classes I'm in. I've gotten perfect on the two friday morning assessments hungover, and perfect on the midterm. 98% in the course right now - have to land a D on the final for an A in the course... a "hard" course, but it's all about algebra and logic and thinking through the problem. I'm also at the top of my engineering physics class that I'm taking and need a F for an A in the course. (took it because I thought I was going to transfer back into ME program, but fuck that... so I'm pwning engineers for the hell of it now)
a lot of engineers are going to be going into management in their careers anyway, with a MBA or not. employees know they can think, and I'm just cutting out the torture part in college and going right into what I enjoy/am good at.
Biomedical is the field that is really hot right now. Combined with a MD, it'd be very profitable in the future. We need people to help keep our aging baby boomers alive and well, plus there is a lot of money period for new medical products. Chemistry will be importart too. But only do what you know you can excel with, and have the intelligence/thinking ability that is well suited for the career.
also, no matter what industry, you will need communication skills / teamwork / leadership qualities, so don't be a slacker ever and just hang out. join student organizations and clubs and try to be a leader. i slack in HS and quit student council and only did one sport. I am sad I didn't take advantage of opportunities that were before me because I didn't feel like the effort / wanted to relax. it's important
Fuck off man, you are in high school aren't you? What do you have to add to this thread, other than feeling sorry for your friend holmes?
What was James kicked out of high school for, being too much of a nerd?
There are definately tons of success stories from people that never went to college. But I would say there are more success stories from people that went to college.

Or you could get a 4.0 (I did 2 semesters in a row, and I have a 3.87 cumulitive with 2 semesters left) AND get experience in college.
Or I'll just listen to my professor who says your GPA means jack shit and its all about your portfolio of things you've done in the past that show your quality of work, something a GPA can not show. Hell my GPA completely sucks, I've been on academic probation/warning most of the time at the university, but I'd like to see you try and talk down to me.
