Looking to buy a commuter car and the Fit looks like an intelligent design.
Anybody drive/have owned a Honda Fit?

Really good friend in college had one that I spent lots of time in.
He Uber'ed in it. Held up well to the abuse of drunk college assholes.
Excellent little reliable car. Held 4 people pretty easily.
He took it camping once and was able to cram a lot of stuff in the car with the seats down. Like almost a 6' truck bed full of stuff.
Lots of people like the Fit. If it fits (hahaha) your style I'd go for it. They can be had for very cheap too.My previous build (currently E30-less)

It's an average japanese econobox. Economical, reliable, painfully boring. My mother has had a couple of them, 2007 and 2012 Fit "Sport" (she still has the 2012). It's roomy, but it's also loud and extremely slow. The only good thing about how it drives is the steering.Comment

My brother and friend both own one, and they absolutely love them.
They serve their intended purpose very well, and never die.No E30 ClubOriginally posted by MrBurgundyAnyways, mustangs are gay and mini vans are faster than your car, you just have to deal with that.Comment

Wife sold her 14 Fit Sport. I liked it was a very simple car, reminded me of a early 80's Honda CRX or Civic. Sized right has safety with side impact curtains doesn't weigh 4300 lbs and got great mileage if you live where it's designed for the CITY.
Seemed to get better mileage in Town with RPM's up, think momentum car.
Two years of owning it nothing broke just gas and oil. Just the way you expect from one. Plan to get one for my son for college.Comment

Hmm OP now has me thinking i should get a fit too. My DD just blew the head gasket which only leaves me with my E30 that has the tranny slowly going out. Those fits are pretty cheap 4-6k, thanks OP I think i've found my DD replacment.Comment

My wife and I bought her 2011 Fit Base 5/spd brand new. My brother-in-law just rolled it over 100k on his way back from taking it to Burning Man. Definitely buy it in the 5 speed manual, the auto is much worse to drive...you really need to be able to choose your own gears to wring what little performance it has. We get around 35mpg mixed driving.
It is a loud car on the freeway (road noise and engine noise) and really doesn't have much power, but M-technik-3 is absolutely correct, the thing likes to be driven hard. I swear, it gets way better mileage when I beat on it than when I drive it "economically".
In terms of maintenance we are on our third set of tires and had to replace the AC compressor (at $800 that one sucked). Other than that, all I've done is oil changes and air filter. Speaking of oil changes, it's super easy on this car- it takes me about 30 minutes from wheels in the air to back on the ground. I'm stalling on the actual install, but I have new plugs, air filter #2, cabin air filter, and upper intake gasket (have to remove the upper intake to get at the plugs) in the garage waiting to go in.
It is incredibly versatile and can seriously fit a lot of stuff, we once moved a full sized bookcase. Last but not least, even the base sound system is killer.Comment

I'll second what everyone is saying about the noise levels inside the car. It is loud. If that kind of drone bothers you, stay away from the Fit.My previous build (currently E30-less)

Late model Sports had better sound deadening. Automatics get better mileage than the manuals because of the gear ratios in final drive. My mother in law had the same car as ours 14 Sport Auto and her's got 4-5 mpg better on the highway.
They are cheap economical and practical. But switch gear is cheap but it's a fuel miser.Comment

My E30 is quieter than my mother's fit on the highway and I have stiff bushings, loud tires and a 3" turbo back exhaust. The fit seriously must have no sound deadening at all on the firewall and the hard econo tires it comes with from the factory are loud too (they also have no traction).Comment

Just test drove the LX version
I thought the car was quiet on the freeway. The car really has no frills, but the wife is going to commute 90 miles round trip. The only person I know that has owned one bought a HR-V and misses his Fit.
I would never buy this kind of car for me. But that being said I'm going to be selling my 89 325i. No space for four cars and my 325i is in near perfect condition and I'll be driving my wife's A6. Don't want the 325 to sit outside in the PNW“There is nothing government can give you that it hasn’t taken from you in the first place”
