All in all, if your mother gives you food, clothing, shelter, and love, you really aren't owed anything else. I can understand Mike being angry about it because I think I would be too.. (all things being equal) but once a parent raises their kid into adulthood, everything else that follows is more of a privilage than it is a right.

Life isn't perfect and mothers certainly aren't perfect. I'm sure you'll have many shittier days. 2500 seems like a lot until you get stuck with repairs, incidental expenses, utilities, real estate taxes, insurance, etc......

I graduate next year and I'll have a decent paying job. But that doesn't mean jack in this area. 250k for a townhome and I'm just glad this isn't DC.

So I'll keeping rooming with my buddy and splitting rent. I plan to save like crazy towards a downpayment. Sure, I might have to drive to my parents 1 1/2 hours way to work on the car. But I'm 22, I've got the rest of my life to waste money on toys and work on projects.

But that's how it goes!... Good luck with everything.

Yes indeed! The property values around here are sky high! A 3 level townhouse anywhere near downtown is worth over a million. 5-7 years ago, you couldn't give 'em away. We thought my buddy was crazy for buying one of those abandoned townhouses for $220,000 which we thought was ridiculously priced at the time. And even though the guy is a bit eccentric, it was a very smart financial decision.

He will just buy r3v and unban himself. The rich aren't like you and me, they play by a different set of rules.

FYI, when you get a house loan, your time in college counts as experience in the field. I bought my house with a year of actual work in the field.

I'm in engineering as well, only I'm structural in the aircraft field.

So wait... I have 3 years of school for my bachelors, and a year of actual in the field work (telecommunications, WAN), so I can say I have 4 years of work and it will count? I didn't think # of years in your current career/field would matter for a house loan. What else do they ask about?

That's about the only thing they're really concerned about, once you get past the money aspect of a loan. As long as what you went to school for can be related to what your current job is, it counts as experience. I was in school for 6 1/2 years, but I think they will only count 4 for college. I don't think work and school at the same time will count for additional years though.

In the early to mid 80's when DC was really going down the crapper, many of those townhouses were $40,000. Some were less than that! My parents would have bought one if the DC school system wasn't so terrible back then.
