      :(

I hate seeing wrecks like that. It's all fun and games to make someone of someone that r3vs and bends his fenders up but walks away, but stuff like this really sucks.

      RIP.

Wow, That's a hell of a hit. And there is a bit of blood splattered on the interior, somehow makes it seem a whole lot worse than just "a crash" when you see something like that.

Be interested to know the story behind it tho.

Yeah.. but the look of a crash is not always indicitive of survivors. Many times the fire and EMS people will do more damage to the car getting the people out than the amount of damage caused by the accident.

Many tow truck drivers have also told me that they have seen cars that were barely damaged only to later learn that the driver died.. where as they can also attest to the fact that they picked up cars that were so badly wrecked that you had no idea which end of the car was the front or the back, and the driver walked away without a scratch.

There's a very logical explanation for that. Something has to absorb the shock of the sudden deceleration, be it the passengers or the car. If the car doesn't, the passengers get banged up pretty bad.

I like this quote from the news report:

The police believe that excessive speed was a contributory factor in the accident.

                  No shit!

Anyone who thinks the front clip seperated from that car because it's a poor design is off their rocker. That's what happens when you wreck ANY street car at triple digit speeds. Porsches, Audis, BMWs, anything will get torn into expensive bloody pieces.

What are you talking about? It's designed to be replaceable so when you forget to hit the brakes because your on your cell phone your car isn't totaled. The front unibody is tacked to the firewall, that is the new design (simplified). Only BMW certified shops will work on new 5/6/7 series usually, because of the materials/skill needed to repair such parts. It's not poor designed, and it's not what "happens to any car", it's a reaction of BMW's design and repair principles, and it also acts to help collision dampening.

Dayum! The impact shattered the transmission apart, it's got the output shaft just hanging in mid air! I'd like to know what else happened there. How was that police van involved, did some other car go careening completely through the wall and into the river, etc...?

thats not the air filter, its the partikel filter that is located ussually in the firewall, along with the computer that is laying next to it.

just another example why dumb people shouldnt be alowed to put other peoples lives in thier hands. stupid ass.!!

I full well realize that, HOWEVER 99% of collisions you'll see will not result in the entire front end shearing off. Pretty much every car since the 80s has been spot welded together and re-inforced with bonding agents(glue).
My point was you're kidding yourself if you think that every 6 series is going to do this when they get hit in most cases. I haven't seen one that's been in a normal accident do that yet. By normal I mean anything at freeway speed and under. I'm not arguing that it wasn't designed to seperate more easily, only stating that it takes a SEVERE impact to do so.

Ok.. assuming that this is how the car was designed, I hope that this car is declared a total loss is not repairable so that it can end up on the road again. I surely will not want to drive a car that was previously in two halves.
