That's the stupidest thing I've ever read. Why would you lock a thread where people are arguing points on one of the biggest debates in the world? I've read tons of things here I've never read before here. Why the fuck would it be locked? If you don't want to read it don't fuckin read it. Trent's input was valued in at least my eyes, so it was not useless.

First off,
The bible is a piece of shit.
Second, you are hopeless.
I feel sorry for YOU, that you HAVE to believe in something and HAVE to have "faith" in something. If more people believed in THEMSELVES, this world would be a better place. People who have to believe in something are weak minded.Comment

But you don't try thats the thing. Nobody does. If the fear of hell was there you and everybody else would be a monk. Your fear for god is limited by your evaluation of him being real. You kinda think he's real so you kinda follow his word. IF you thought he was real you would tremble at his creation and you wouldn't try to be a good Christian. You would be good or you would want to be dead.
Im at a loss at what religion does to better this world? Science has saved and improved more lives over that coarse of mankind then religion which has killed more then it has saved. My science is serving me, is your religion serving you? I know your trying to serve it.
Yes many wars have been fought in the name of religion and many have died for their beliefs... but I believe many wars have also been fought in the name of power, greed, etc... the very things the Bible tells me are sinful.Comment

Where do u think your idea of right and wrong come from?
They didn't have 10 commandments or the bible.
But killing and stealing are still wrong in China.Comment

Not everyone who "meets god" goes straight to heaven. Like I said in my last post, God knows the difference between someone who is genuinely remorseful about the sins they have committed and someone who is not.Comment

I was making an example with the Christian religion because that is what I know. Almost all cultures practice some sort of a religion and that is where their sense of right and wrong comes from. The idea of morality isn't just genetically implanted into us. It is taught to us from a young age by our elders. But the teacher at some point had to be the student. So who was the ultimate teacher who first taught of morality, of right and wrong? That is where, whoever you believe him to be, God comes in.Comment

You can't ask God for forgiveness if you don't believe in him. Furthermore, you can't even believe in a heaven if you don't believe in God. I can't tell you all the 'rules' for getting into heaven but it's all or nothing. You can't pick and choose what you believe ("ie I believe in heaven/hell but not in a God)Comment

What about Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha?
If Buddhists are all good, is 'ol Siddhartha then their God, even though he was a person? Is nirvana the same thing as heaven?
If I'm a Zoroastrian and I've lived a pious Zoroastrian life and killed all the non-believers in accordance with the wishes of Ahura Mazda, do I still get in?
Who's right??
It's evident that the God of the Jews and Christians is the same as the Allah of the Muslims, they're all Abrahamic religions, but what about cultures who's beliefs are wildly divergent from our own??
What about the Egyptians?? If I worshipped Amun-Ra, do I go to the afterlife, and if I'm missing my mummy, am I dooooomed to spend eternity in a limbo?
The ancient Greeks? If I worship Zeus and Ares, and I die in battle, do I go to Elysium?
What of everyone who lived before Christianity and even Judaism existed??
Do they ALL go to hell?Comment

according to me, yes (but that is a huge generalization). Am I saying that is the end all be all, no arguments, correct answer? No, I can't speak for God. All I can tell you is what I believe in and where my faith lies.Comment

What about the current orthodox interpretation?
The CHURCH seems to be saying that ANYONE, of ANY religion, who lived a GOOD life, regardless of creed, will go to HEAVEN! (My priest actually said those words a number of times).
Does the Pope go to hell because he served Hitler? (He was in the Hitler Youth.)This all needs to be sorted out.Comment

One thing that bugs me about the bible is its stance on learning. Dont eat from the tree of knowledge simple human, you just might learn to think for yourself. Teaching ignorance is dangerous and counterproductive for the human race. There is a reason it was called the dark ages. Because there were so many highly religous people with their head in the sand to what the church was doing.Comment
