At least your significant other is open to carrying, be satisfied with that for now and not push her into something she isn't comfortable with. With that said, I'm unbelievably shocked how soft a shooter my Kahr CM9 is, maybe take her to an indoor range where you can rent a bunch of different guns and let her blast a few. Also remind her that it's not like she'll be putting hundreds of rounds through it, as long as she's accurate out to 7 yds and can handle 7 or so rounds in rapid fire without her wrists breaking off...she'll be just fine and better off for it.

I would get her the .22 and let her get use to it then get her a 9mm. My wife liked the Sig P229. It's heavy enough to keep the recoil down. Then I loaded her some soft 9mm rounds to get use to the gun. Now she is popping caps with the boys and loving it.

That said there is the old saying that 1 hit with a 22 is better than 9 misses with a 45. I would be trying to talk her into at least one of the larger 380's. The recoil is not much worse with a med framed 9mm either.

edit: Though get a decent 22 pistol anyway no matter if she wants it or not. They are great fun, good to train with and normally very cheap too shoot. My FIL just picked up a SIG 1911 in 22LR that thing is a fucking riot, We nearly burned up a box 550 Federal out of my stash last weekend with that thing in no time flat and could not keep the mags loaded fast enough to keep up with who was shooting.........
        ^this

Having something she likes will enable her to carry and we all know, one gun is never enough :D

I got my wife a sig2022 in .40 and she loves it. I also got a SR22p and that thing is the BEST 22 handgun. It shoots any 22lr loads, bulk and the good stuff with no problems, and I got one with a threaded barrel and now i'm waiting for my Spectre II to be approved.

It even comes in Raspberry or Lady Purple...

Yes. Do it. Esp since it shoots [almost] any round and tear down / re-assembly is quite easy.

Grab the 226 Classic 22 and then once she's comfortable with it, then buy one of the slide kits to use the original frame along with a larger calibre.

I'm going to be doing this with the 22 and then purchase the 9mm kit. Not only is it cheaper on ammo for getting proficient with the pistol, but it's actually cheaper than buying the 9mm outright.

My biggest issue with .22LR is the availability of ammo right now. I'd like to see at least a .380 if not a 9mm. I don't expect her to be able to handle .40 in a compact like I do with my Glock 23. I know ballistics say .22LR is perfectly competent and the data shows that it's most likely to have a 1 shot stop, but I'd really be more comfortable with a centerfire pistol. It sucks I shoot .40 because it'd be nice to only have to buy one type of ammo for the two of us lol

My wife hates my .40, but loves 9mm.

Honestly I can't imagine any girl who can't handle a 9mm. Even that lc9 is easy to shoot.

If you are set on 380, the LC380 just came out. Its the size of the LC9 just in 380. Use the walmart app to find ammo. Pretty easy, just need to keep up on it.

Was out with my buddy today shooting his .308 savage. Put 6 rounds within a foot or two of our gong set at 1000m, will be nice once the wind is down to actually get consistent hits.

Anyone have any experience with the field and stream safes from dicks? They have a 10 gun For $400.

All I have to go in is 2 long guns, pistols, and lots of ammo. I don't need anything crazy as this is going into my single bedroom apartment. When I have a house I'll go bigger.

Also weight is a deciding factor. This one is only 250lbs so I could wrestle it by myself. Once I load it up it will be significantly heavier, so no one is getting it out and down 3, flights of stairs without attracting attention.

I have their 24 gun (I think) safe and I like it. It's not a $2000 safe but it'll keep out the smash and grabbers.

Because we understand the need to not rely on anyone for our own well being. Having responsibility for your own care and future come with certain responsibilities. Personal and home defense just happens to be one of them. There are many other facets to living a lifestyle not dependent on the "gobment" to be there for you in a time of need. The more they try to overstep and control us the less ability we have to control ourselves. Some people just refuse to see things in that light because it is a more challenging way of life, yet more rewarding...especially when you have kids and their kids that will grow up in a VERY different country than it is today. The writing is on the wall unless enough people stand up and refuse the "change" that certain political movements like to advertise.

Anyway, guns go boom. So that's cool too. :)

Check out his other stuff too... There's one where he makes some candied bacon on a Saiga 12 barrel... and eats it raw.
