ruger p95. figured id show my grouping as well. did really well, the holes in the 9 section were the DA shots, the rest were SA. shot 50 through that, so 4-6 in the 9, about 30 or so in the bullseye and about 10 in the "head" of the target. love that gun...

375 holland and holland? never seen a non H&H rifle chambered for a H&H round. interesting. its a bit pricy too, ammo engine shows ~$65 for box of 20, ouch.

lol your not gonna load a 375 H&H for much less than 3 bucks a pop either.

The classic glass on there is fucking cool as shit, but if you are going to use it, upgrade to something much better and more modern.

You dont shoot squirrel with it unless its a Mutant one thats the size of a fiat.

Next it was developed as a medium game cartridge and for African dangerous game caliber in the heavier bullet weights. Really its way too big for deer or elk but many people do use it for that. But for elk it is effective it just falls on the large side is all, as 235gr bullet at just over 3000fps or a 300gr at 2500fps is just a little bit of over kill for that. Now moose or cape buffalo or something like that yeah it would be on my short list thats for sure

The problem is brass is almost as expensive as loaded rounds, so I guess I'll be shooting factory to accumulate cases. RCBS dies are about $30.

I have seen reduced loads for IMR4895 for 300gn cast, don't know if that will work for 200gn jacketed, but for cost estimate it should be close to $.40 (bullet) + $.30 (primer) + $.20 (powder assuming 70gns, have seen loads as low as 45gns) = 90 cents. The unknown is case life, it's pretty poor in belted magnums but maybe I can get 20 uses per at the reduced load. Seems like it could be worth trying. You have to order a bunch to amortize the hazmat fees, and I'm not sure my shoulder can take enough punishment to make it worth it! So factory loads at first.

Glad you like the optics, I think that was one reason I couldn't pass it up! I really like peep sights and the action came drilled and tapped on the right side for that. What would you replace the glass with?

        I dig the post reticle.

It's not a Weatherby (I'm glad it's not, I don't think a push feed rifle is appropriate in this caliber, although Weatherby's are superior in other respects). It's an Interarms Mark X. Basically a '98 Mauser.

vedubin and mrsleeve... what do you think of this?

I think its carbine length though. I'm looking for mid-length, but I'm not too picky. :)

looks decent to me, considering LMT lists that at 1120ish, with like a month lead time last I knew.

the guy has no sales so I think I would be a little leery, and wait the for another one. or just place my order with LMT and wait the month

Oh frank, LOL my mistake on the MarkV I was just scanning pics quickly and the X looks kinda like a V when you dont look carefully As far as glass replacement, all depends on what you want to spend.

On the cheep side no less than a Nikon Monarch 5-16x42 or similar Loopy VX III

For a mid level, I would throw a Zeiss 6.5-20X50 Or 4.5-14x 50 with a #20 Z plex reticle the only minor draw back is the fact these are 1" main tubes rather than 30mm

Top tier S&B, Hensoldt, or Night Force.

There are some other options that but this could turn into its own thread.

did a little shooting today with my dad and grandpa.

Shot my dads Smith and Wesson M&P9pro.. i like how it felt in my hand.. the trigger took a bit of getting used to because it is a very light pull and how it has the trigger safety was a bit weird to me at first. But over all I did enjoy shooting it. Not a fan of the single stack magazines though. But thats not really a big issue haha

Then my grandpa brought out some S&M handgun he had.. not really sure what it was but it sort of resembled a 1911 but a little bulkier and not as long. It shot fairly well but the trigger pull was a bit on the hard side for me.. I kept thinking ok, when is it going to fire and it kept messing with my accuracy. I dont like having to think about pulling the trigger

Then got some time in with my DD 16" AR15..

I have only shot 1 other AR15, bushmaster mixup, and I am not sure if they are all like this, but I am accurate as shit with mine! from 75 yards with backup sights I am having some pretty awesome groups, for me, all within about 2". I am though having some trouble at that range keeping my gun steady and tend to keep my groups together, but they are always off target a tad from where I am aiming. They would still technically hit target, given I was aiming at something bigger than a baseball as that was my target size. I really enjoy shooting backups, more raw, but I think sometime down the road an optic is MUCH needed, but not really sure as to what will suit me best.

My buddy, mr deagle, has a eotech xps and as much as I like it for shorter distances, I am not sure how well it would be 75yd+

so then that leads me to an ACOG setup, but not sure how that would be in a home defense situation

but done rambling.. just thought i would share my morning!

Well lets be honest, in a home defense situation you would not be anymore than 10 meters from someone (unless you have a bigass house) in which case you could just point in the general direction and hit your target without the need of any sight/optic.

this is why you use red dots, or a good laser on a pressure switch, for home defense. you dont want to fuck up and hit your family Just firing from the hip so to speak. Also why you use a shot gun or a good pistol (preferably a shoty) for investigating the bumps in the night, not a rifle

Good point. I personally wouldn't use a rifle for home defense, but some others may. I've got my pump remmy!

^ there are a lot of different theories for home defense. Some say to use only a handgun because you don't want the BG to wrestle away a long rifle away from you. Others say use a shotgun because you can use wide spreading shells that won't over-penetrate and cover a wider area. Then there is the notion that you shouldn't clear the house, point a gun at the door and call 911.

Personally, I'm too curious to not see whats bumping in my house, and I am most comfy with a 10+1 .45 handgun that I'm accurate with. Buddy of mine keeps his saiga-12 with a 20 round drum loaded with buckshot at the ready. Either way, we are both equally prepared because we have what we're comfortable with. (On a side note, he might be a bit better prepared LOL)

The only reason I wouldn't use my AR for HD is because it would make me and everyone else in the house go deaf. That motherfucker is LOUD. I'm fine with my 1911 and a surefire sitting in a drawer next to the bed.

My AR actually, to me, is not very loud at all.

I dont own a handgun, yet!, so the AR is the HD weapon of choice as the 12ga isnt as mobile. It stays under my bed ready to go incase I need it. We have had quite a few armed break in's this past year so can never be to careful.
