Yeah, I don't know why anyone would pick up a 'survival' 22lr rifle when a Takedown is available and has a ridiculous aftermarket support, eats a lot of ammo, and rimfire central has as much knowledge about 10/22s as R3V has about E30s

And look how accurate the takedown is even breaking/re-assembling over and over again: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...1022-takedown/

LOL at the Glock arguing. Different people like different things. I personally dislike them but other people swear by them.

1911s are classic cool and popular, but then again it's like talking about the E30 M3 as the pinnacle of sports cars. Glocks seem like the ever popular all-motor Hondas at the turn of the century, taking on hate and arguing to defend themselves from the classic American Iron fans.

I guess the biggest thing was how the henry is its own case. My thought was to be able to just throw it into my pack and not worry till it was time to snatch up some game. It does seem to be far more limited than the take down in all but that category.

It's a neat design feature, but IMO not worth compromising on everything else. A MKIII Hunter has more capacity and might be better off than the AR-7.

          http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...urvival-rifle/
If I were heading to the range for an afternoon of plinking, the Henry AR-7 would not be my first choice. (If we’re talking .22 rifles, I’d reach for my 10/22 with Tech Sights.) If I needed a self-defense rifle, a “proper” AR would be it. Hunting small game? Something else again. (A 15-round Henry Lever Action would be a far better choice). Which leaves me thinking . . .

That the AR-7 is best thought of as a back-up rifle. The go-along-to-get-along rifle that you keep handy in case you can’t get to a better long gun. It’s a small niche but one that the U.S. Survival AR-7 fits perfectly.
          http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/201...1022-takedown/
One side effect of having a smaller overall size is that it also becomes a very viable option as a survival firearm. Simply throw it in the trunk of your car and forget about it. Or dump it in one of the millions of compartments of your Cessna 172 before taking off to ensure you don’t starve to death before SAR gets to you.

The only thing that really compares is the Henry AR-7, which was specifically designed for survival situations. That single-minded focus on survival, though, keeps the AR-7 off my list of guns that are fun to shoot. So where the AR-7 would be a sole-purpose rifle that I’d never take to the range, the 10/22 Takedown fills both roles quite nicely.
This is one of those situations where the whole really is greater than the sum of its parts. A superb rifle for new shooters or those looking for a survival rifle.

          Found this on another forum:
Since it's very inception, the AR-7 has worked hard to gain a reputation as a POS, no matter who makes it.
And yet a different forum again:
The Henry survival - Cheap pot metal cast aluminum receiver, mediocre accuracy (front sight is a rubbery plastic and gets all bent to hell when you store it in the stock). Zero aftermarket parts and terrible customer service.

Marlin Papoose have two - One 70P with the wood stock and one 70pss stainless with plastic stock. Good accuracy, good construction and materials and small selection of aftermarket mags, decent customer support. Sort of odd to shoot with no fore end. I'll add that they're expensive if and when you can find them on gunbroker. Took me almost a year to get the two that I wanted.

Ruger 10/22 - Extremely accurate, great construction, a zillion aftermarket mags etc. Great customer support and the price is right. I'd highly recommend the ruger.

Went to my local shop to check out some small 9mm's. I asked to check out the LC9 and he pointed out one they had on consignment with the crimson trace laser.

I handled it and was impressed. The trigger I was warned about did not bother me. Maybe because this one has already been broken in, but it was very smooth. Long, but smooth.

Slight wear marks on the barrel, but for $300 I just couldn't pass it up. After all, this exact gun has been in my sights. If I didn't snag it I would kick myself later.

Just got her all cleaned up, I'm pretty sure the PO didn't bother to clean it up after the last range session. It wasn't bad, but certainly not clean by my standards.

Now I just gotta find some ammo to feed it.

Congrats on the purchase, I'm sure you'll love it.

Here's some 9mm online for reasonable prices. It really shouldn't be that hard to find for less than .30 a round if you shop around. Walmart is still hit or miss and most gun stores are still smoking crack.

Just snagged 2 100 round boxes of Federal American Eagle and one box of federal jhp carry ammo from my local wally world.

Going to stop by on the way home and hopefully grab some more.

Got lucky 2 days in a row! Keep em coming!

Seriously considering those reloads for range use.

Only thing holding me back from ordering bulk right now is I am in an apartment complex in NoVa and don't know how I feel about having ammo delivered here.

Gotta see if my parents would mind me shipping it to their house...

I want to order a couple spam cans for the Ak too.

It'll come in an unmarked box. Your leasing office doesn't take deliveries for you?

Pffft, more election year promises. Also the mental health evaluations create a huge gray area. If followed through with (if elected and he actually keeps his word, unlikely IMO), it's a step in the right direction but still has a long way to go.
