Yeah, I realize that you're right. And I rode my single gear mtn bike a lot. I just like the idea of trying out gears first in a road bike and introducing myself to the whole concept before I jump right into buying a new fixed gear. I figure I used road bike I could at least sell back if I decide it's not for me.

Any input on this bike, http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/bik/1285385806.html, would be awesome because I'm going to check it out today with a good possibility of purchase.
I like that bike. Great geometry, aggressive, lightweight, rigid. Its a good price too. Coda cranks arent high up in my book, but you could easily upgrade to a nice single ring chainring and crankset, and do riser or flat bars for easy commuting and upgrade the shifters. STI style shifters are a pain in the ass in the city. Promise.

PS - Buying a fixed gear, if anything, will hold more value than a road bike that cant be converted into a fixed gear. The dropouts on that Cannondale are a bad candidate for conversions unless you do external chain adjusters.

Thank you! That was VERY helpful and I was thinking the same thing about upgrading to a single chain ring. (although I was doing it not for parts quality but just for convenience)

Well, I was thinking buying a NEW fixie. Since I obviously can't sell it back for the same price I paid new. And I'm just not sure I want to commit to that... A used fixie, well CL hasn't been so kind to show me one in as nice of shape as this bike.

Flat bars, I'm not sure... I love the looks and ease of use. Just not sure how they'd feel on a road bike.

      Thank you Scabzzz.

Yeah man its preference. Ive got a friend riding the same Cannondale CAD-3 that I own, except he has a DA track crankset, with 9 speed derailuers and shifters on a riser bar. Looks awesome, rides awesome, and is extremely convienent for city riding. Go for that. Its a good halfway point between track bikes and road bikes. Ill see if I can get him to send me a picture of it and I'll PM you.

        Youre welcome!

Sounds awesome. Pretty much what I'm looking for... I'll watch out for the PM.

Sounds like I should pick up this bike today when I go look at it. He sent me a picture and it looks brand new. He just recently put all of the original parts back on (from higher end ones) so they should be in good shape and he's doing a full tune up while he's at it. Bike looks to be perfect.

          You've definitely been helpful.

Just bought the Miran...well I put a $500 deposit down. I had to get it..they were taking an additional $100 off, this week only, so I bit the bullet and bought it. I owe $300 more on it (I bought the 5 year service plan)..I'm gonna wait until my next pay check which is in 2 weeks and then go get it.

Thanks. I don't really know what I have (good or bad), but with the help of Scabbz and AlpineWhitem52 I decided to jump on this... I think it should fit my needs well.

Single chain ring and flat bars don't seem out of the question...

Trek or Specialized Epic Pro? Looks really similar to my Specialized.

I have a mid-90s carbon fiber Specialized Epic Pro. Kicks ass for its age. Bought it from a friend's mom for $200 (who got it for free when she worked for Specialized) but I see them go on Craigslist for $500-600. Fast, smooth, and the purple carbon fiber is pretty bitchin'.
