I'm kind of confused, does that mean that it will only skid in one spot on my tire every time? How does that work?

Where the pedal is in its cycle around the crank. If you always stop front left leg foreward it locks you into a small number of teeth to be on at the rear wheel and it's contact patch.

Yes the ratio of your gears is what determines how many skid patches you have when you skid stop with the same foot forward each time.

Oh right... since it's fixed, it will always hit in the same spot when you stop. I get it now. Still getting used to this whole fixed thing. :D

I'm workin' on catching up with ya. This whole gas price thing has me looking for a shop within bike range so I don't have to buy gas for anything but personal time (Not paying to get to work). Now that I have a potential fram to work with I really would like to get this going.

Still looking for any suggestions as to what parts to buy for what I'll need.

the main reason i first got into these bikes was for commuting puproses. I rode brakeless BMX bikes for years and love clean lines and clutter-free shit. Thats what originally drew me to the fixed gear life style. for the first month of school i was walking 17 blocks and it took me ~1/2 hour. now it takes me 4 minutes.

The red standard STA500 BMX i posted in the beginning pages of this thread is for sale btw for 800obo. it has literally the best of everything on it, i built the bike from scratch.

My first modification (after the addition of the brake), cut the drops down to bulls. They'll do for now, until I get some better ones.

The 202 in the spokes is from this weekend, we had the Cascade Cycling Classic do a stage downtown, and it flew off one of the bikes in the Master's Class, and landed at my feet. So I put it on board.

just wrapped my bars. rode 2 years without tape and had no complaints, but figured what the hey

48/16 gearing. '01 pista frame, new everything else. cromo fork, sugino crank & 165mm crank arms, celeste velocity deep v's with machined sidewalls (flip flop hub, and I have a front brake setup but I never ride single speed, only fixed so I don't run the brake, it's flat here) and formula hubs. Bianchi post and saddle, mks pedals and clips. I also have those 1935 repro soma drop bars on a track stem, maybe I'll pop that in some day

here's my geared bike. doesn't see the road very much

I HAVE to get some different rims, like Deep V's or something. They look so badass.

there sia formula that you can use to calculate the gear inches you prefer with different chainring/cog combinations to allow for more contact patches when skidding.

I have been watching bootleg sessions v.1&2 and i would suggest people who enjoy the fixed culture to pick the videos up. It looks like everything was shot in unfiltered DV but the vids are enjoyable and in the second one they took it global.

                              EDIT:

I didn't know you could do that stuff on one of those bikes...

It's like age 12 all over again.

                                my bad

There are some parts that are very boring if you are not interested in track standing, but there are some sweet street parts that are the fucking titties.

I also absolutely love this vid on yourtube, i think its just how well its cut, the riding is as fluid as the song used. And the production value seems to have been taken more into consideration while making it than the bootleg sessions.
