Which cordless drill do you have?

Here's a question for the guys who own or use a good cordless drill. The drill I had was a DeWalt 14.4V XRP, this one:

Now recently, someone decided they needed it more than I did, and borrowed it from my truck with the rest of my tools. So now I need a new drill. My journeyman has the same one, and he's had it for like 3 years. I had just bought mine in August of last year, and in the less than a year I had it, it was in for repair twice. First, the chuck stripped out, and when I got it back, the chuck completely locked up within a week, and it had to go back in for repair again. This kind of soured me. But Brett (my journeyman) has never had a single issue with his, and I've always had good experience with DeWalt tools.

So now I have to buy a new drill, and I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and get the same drill again, or if any of you guys that use one on a daily basis know of a better one. It has to be at least a 14.4V, and have a shit-ton of torque, which the DeWalt does. I've been looking at Makitas and Milwaukees, and the Rigids don't look bad. I don't want a Ryobi, one of the other guys I work with has one, and I hate it. Anyone have any info to impart?

I got a Mac Tools branded one in a combo pack with a 1/2" Impact 18.8v cordless set, and I must say they are both a top noth peice of shit.

I have used DeWalt 18.8v and 14.4v. I have heard nothing but good things about Old Milwaukee also. Both are high quality as well.

I'm looking at an 18V lithium-ion Milwaukee that weighs almsot half as much as my 14.4V DeWalt did. It's more of a compact drill, but I don't need a huge one. I'm just afraid that it won't have the power that the DeWalt did.

I have an 18v dewalt. Not the XRP model but is pretty beefy. I think if I were using it every day for my job I would probably spend a bit more and get something better. The high end makitas are nice.

I have the 6 piece set of Dewalt 18v cordless tools as pictured below. I have not had any problems with them at all. But I usually grab the 1/4" drive impact gun before the drill/driver. The xrp drill/driver is great but damn heavy if you need it for prolonged periods of time. Either of them get good usage of the battery before crapping out though.

I should add that I have used some makitas as well and liked them as much as the Dewalt that I have. I have also heard good things on the Bosch brands. A little OT, but I have a Bosch 15 amp sawzall that you can barely hold on to when using, because its so damn strong.

But I have yet to step up to the lithium ion cordless tools yet. Mainly because I am waiting on their cost to come down some more.

Just to be clear, I don't need an impact or anything like that. Just a regular driver/drill, like the one pictured in the first post.

Yeah, I checked it out. Half of what I use it for is drilling holes through studs/joists with spade bits for wire runs, so it won't work for me.

Damn missed that the battery & charger are separate, that is bs.

Ryobi 18v. Cheap batteries at Home Depot. Takes a beating. Then when you do want an impact, buy their 18v impact and use the same batteries.

Ryobi used to be ok & had great support now both suck.
