My point is that before the '94 World Cup, Mexico was a pushover. A non-contender. It didnt exist. Argentina had won 2 World Cups AND reached the finals two other times that it wasnt champion, on top of winning the leading amount of 14 Copa Americas. The past 20 years have been very kind to Mexico in the international soccer sense. But anything before that and Mexico was as well-regarded as Albania is today. See World Cup Participations, placings, and results. Then compare that with Germany, Holland, England, Argentina, brasil, etc.

    My point exactly.

Shit we havent won a major tournament since '93, but our players are sought after throughout the world, we have won mulitple World Cups and every major tournament that there is to win (WOrld Cup twice, Copa America 14 times), we are ALWAYS ranked in the top ten, and the CONCACAF is made of many countries that are more known for their baseball, track and field, economic and political strife than any soccer accomplishments. A lot of these countries rank well into the 50's and 100's in the FIFA ranking. I think the U.S. and Mexico have improved UNBELIEVABLY in the last 20 years, but theyre constantly playing against and being compared to minnows. I think they would be lots better or at least their true colors shown if they played consistently with better teams.
Mexican soccer fans are very patriotic borderline prideful, like Argentinos, but dayum let's not put the blinders on and act like Mexico has done a memorable thing in the WC in the past 20+ years...It's a two horse race in the CONCACAF, big deal. I'll give Argentina it's due b/c they at least have to qualify in one of the hardest regions every 4 years...it's no gimmie down there just like in Europe. Yeah they've got the talent but when the likes of Brasil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Colombia, Chile etc., are always lurking, you'd better bring your A game.

I'm with you whole heartily w/ your last statement (in bold). You're only going to improve if you play against quality talent...Playing the likes of El Salvador, Trinidad and Tobago, Guadalupe, Cuba (with a bunch of beisbol players) etc., isn't going to cut it.

Should be a good "Gold Cup" finals...if the U.S. gives up an early goal, which they are prone to, this thing will be over quick.

Mariano, they played Jamaica. USA pretty much dominated from what I watched, was working so glanced off and on, but was 1-0 then Jamaica got a red in the 67', i believe, and then USA scored again in the 70th something minute to close it down 2-0
