False. You are always a police officer, but you are very rarely called to duty when off duty. He can be at the bar all he wants. It is not illegal, nor against regulations. Probobly the least likely place to get robbed, people go with as little as possible and pay subscriptions so theres little cash in the register. Your friend is a stereotype.

lol, yea I've run into a few of them at the range I frequent. Theres one with a 44 mag (don't know make, I shoot rimfires) that misses more 25yrds than he hits. He still feels the need to shoot as fast as possible tho.

If I were a cop I would carry at all times. Theres no way around that. Theres also another sheriff who works out with us, and he also carries at all times. So its not uncommon. Your father who has a license to carry because he does payroll, is far from a cop. So lets not compare the two.

Nessicary force is correct, sometimes leathal is nessicary. I'm not saying that the police officer is a a piece of shit, or entirly wrong for that matter he made a tough descision. I will tell you that a clip isn't nessicary, some proficiency would be nice. There's a big difference between a 3 rnd burst fire and a clip.

As far as the difference between my father and police officers, don't try to tell me a single man transporting thousands of dollars through new york city isn't a target. A small group of men in a gym are not targets. I'm sure they have the defense of they want access if they need it but I just find the image of a man on a treadmill with a chest holster funny.

They dont carry it, or wear it on their ankle. I dont do cardio with him, but Im sure he doesnt take it with him on a jog, lol.

I wasnt comparing your dad to the cops, as far as danger goes. Your dad is much more of a target than us. Your dad doesnt have the training a cop does, trained almost TO BE paranoid. I know 3 cops, and all 3 take guns with them wherever they are.

I think your complaint is more along the fact that he actually NEEDED the entire magazine to kill the fellow. I dont think youd feel the same way, as you said, if it only took 3 rounds, and he was killed. So yeah, he should probably go to the range a little more often. At least that way it looks like he used necessary force, rather than unloading a mag on the guy. The end result, was the same, though.

Yea I was thinking the old don't fuck with me I have a gun image. I mean he wants to have it on him in case he has to rush somewhere or whatever, and putting it in the locker or car is irresponsible so it makes sense. Cops are trained to always be aware so alot of times it makes them paranoid, hense why alot of them stand at your b pillar when you get pulled over. As far as the actual shooting goes, he unloaded a clip at a target with wooden doors and innocent people behind it. The end result of the situation shows the poor skill/judgment. The fact is that the officer let either excitement or alcohol get the best of him and his shooting went to shit. The fact that they lied about him being there in the first place tells me it was most likely the latter of the two.

cops should only be considered cops WHILE ON DUTY. and similarly they should only be able to carry their issued piece while on duty. if they want to carry their own gun on their own time, go for it, they should have the right just like everyone else.

1.) Cannot carry inside establishments with liquor licenses
2.) Laws against shooting someone who is not threatening your life. (i.e. if it is not YOU specifically who is being targeted, you will still be prosecuted if you are shooting the attacker, who is attacking the victim.) Also, there are TONS of conditions which must be met before you can fire on an attacker. (1. You must make an attempt to flee 2. If you cannot flee, the attacker must be threatening your life 3. You must prove that you were not the cause of the initial conflict)

I'm not so sure that any of that applies to peace officer, even off duty, I know in California none of that would.
