We don´t have separate showers for men and women in the swedsh military.
The novelty of the nudeness tends to wear off after a couple of months.

The big issue here is there is a lawyer born every minute and while there wont be mass rapes by gay soldiers in the showers one questionable bump or glance will turn into a lawsuit.

I really feel they should be able to serve but I have a problem with them sharing the same showers and restrooms with their straight counter parts.

And I do believe this is an issue of checking others out while in the showers and such. Being they are attracted to the same sex.

I think "don't ask, don't tell" works for right now. I salute every person serving our nation; gay, straight, black, white, doesn't matter. I have MAD respect for our military and everyone in it.

This is totally by choice, you dont have to shower at the gym, you dont have to go in there when anyone else is in there, and even have the option NOT to go to the gym.

I understand that psychologically, some people don't like the idea of homosexual sex, and thus don't want to be hit on by a gay guy because it puts that image in their mind. However, practically speaking, a gay man is just another human being that you aren't attracted to, for which (and maybe this is just me) there are LOTS of people I'm not attracted to. As I fall further in love with my gf, that number just keeps shrinking.

Also, and this is from a guy that hasn't been in the military, I always assumed that part of the reason for keeping males and females separate was to discourage relationships. You don't want emotional shit getting in the way of logical split second decisions. If that is the case, then how the heck does putting all the gay men in their own bunk house make any sense what so ever? It makes more sense to keep them with the guys, thus again creating an environment where soldiers are discouraged from starting a relationship.

A good friend of mine is gay and has served in the military for 20 years. He had a disgruntled non-military ex-boyfriend that told his superior officer that he was gay. His superior told him that he heard rumors about him being gay and if he didn't confess that he would be in big trouble. He confessed and got kicked out. So much for don't ask don't tell right? Now he is doing the exact same job for the same pay on a military base working for a civilian company. The only difference is he lost all his military benefits and pension. FUBAR if you ask me.

And what happens in gyms where athletes find out a guy is gay? They either don't shower when the guy is showering or they give the guy all kinds of shit. Among other things. You can ignore it all you like, there is a real issue there.

Being forced to shower and be in tight personal space with someone who is attracted to the same sex is a total distraction our troops don't need. Some don't have a problem with it some do.

Gays can't have relationships with other gays?
You don't think it's a distraction that men and women would shower and live together...other than forming a relationship? I see many problems with it. And see all kinds of shit being stirred up because of it well beyond a relationship. Relationships happen already within the military. It's a whole different story when the very thing you like (tits and ass) is waved in front of your eyes while showering and bunking.
