    Those were Obama's words.

I'm not sure where you pulled the 1/10 statistic from but it might as well be your ass because even the recording industry itself is making more money than ever.

Movies? apples and oranges on that example but people still pay to go to movies despite being able to own them for less.

Let's not forget the initial reaction they had to tapes, cd's, dvd's. Each new technology they fought tooth and nail to stop, and look where they are now. They would die without that stuff. On that principal alone I say force them to adapt, don't change laws to prop them up.
You have got to be the most pedantic person on this board.

How does piracy benefit the entertainment industry?

Since a decade ago, album sales are averaging only 1/10th what they were then. Album sales now are at a level comparable to the 70s.

not sure if it's any worse now than before. Bush and Cheney took the same stance, as evidenced by the DMCA and freedom of information act.. Along with some court winnings the MPAA+RIAA has been gaining a lot of ground over the last decade.

They've been international about it too, in some smaller countries they got their way so easily that they count each copy/infringement as a felony. They've been leveraging larger ones like france and australia the same way, not sure if anyone has caved yet but the headlines of the bills they are trying to get passed are downright scary.

I would say this is the beginning of the end, but the beginning was a while ago. I hear things speed up when they spiral out of control.

Unbelievable. Our freedom of speech on here should only be controlled by the private owner(s).
