Nothing stops them from going to their attorney have some legally binding documents drawn up that stipulate power of attorney, succession of assets, transferal of benefits, among other concerns if one or the other should have something happen to them or need to be listed as next of kin (all the shit that is pre packaged in a marriage license). Much of what I have done to make sure if something happens the little woman is taken care of. Why are we not married after 10 years you ask because we dont want to, but I have made sure she will be all right if something happens to me. It much easier to amend those papers than a divorce if shit goes south.

as an atheist I could care less what happens to religous organizations,if they are here great, if not I dont care. What I do want and I talked about this in the past is EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL CITIZENS this means that gays should have the same rights as you and I. paternity leave, retirement benefits, medical.....many fortune 500 companies are moving forward with this on their own, however why should they have the same tax benefits as us? Because some book written 2000+ years ago said so. It also talks about not eating swine but the pork board is very strong here.

Take your religion and practice it, just do not make every person in the country you reside in obide by your traditions.

No where did I ever say that humans only have sex to procreate, All though that is the primary function. And no premarital sex is not a SIN, you would have to be religious for that to be true.
