Looks like the bill is now going on to our Fearless Leader... Good. They tossed in there a thing that will lower Social security taxes next year too! If you make $50k you will end up saving about $1000 in social security taxes.

I definine my own market value, and the market itself decides what it will bear. It's too basic. It assumes everyone is paid what they are worth. In fact, compensation is extraordinarily arbitrary.
When an entry-level commercial pilot who has lots of schooling to pay for and 50 lives in his or her hands every time they go to work makes in a year what a major league baseball pitcher makes per pitch, it says something about what we as a society value.I Timothy 2:1-2Comment

There is nothing arbitrary about that. The pitcher brings considerably more value to his employer than the pilot does to his. Its sad but its true. In any given game hundreds of thousands of dollars in revenue can be riding on that pitch. Asses in the seats, advertising revenue, etc. The cost of that single pitch can be spread out over all of that and still be profitable. So how much do you think 120 seats on a plane would have bring in on revenue to be able to pay pilots $50k a flight? It's too basic. It assumes everyone is paid what they are worth. On a side note every single person I actually know who uses the argument that its a shame we pay atheletes so much were part of the "Im with Coco" facebook group shitting on NBC and saying he deserved his 44mil in severance. Which is a shit-ton more than all of these golden parachutes that people complain about CEOs getting.Im now E30less.

Hmmm.....It costs airlines lots of money when a pilot fucks up. A serious crash costs a plane and possibly hundreds of lives, not to the ripple effects the loss of those lives has on thousands of other people, and lastly, the public's perception of the safety of the airline itself. Many millions of dollars out the window. The American crash in the Bronx in 2001 (not 9/11 related) cost over $600M.
A pitcher fucks up and..... does anyone die? Anyone even lose a limb? No. Even a really great hitter misses 7/10 of the pitches thrown at him. I'd like to see how long a pilot around here would last if he missed even 1/10 of his carrier landings......
You just found one that isn't. Over-paid is over-paid regardless of profession. Sports figures and late-night talk show hosts aren't exactly contributing to the betterment of society in any meaningful way. I don't recall hearing of a linebacker curing any diseases lately....
And since when is $44M a "shit-ton more than" $53M? And that's just one guy! He gets his, but the shareholders get fucked.Comment

As with most overly simplified statements in political discussions...
I'll also simplify. Power, unchecked, is dangerous. Whether it's business or government, there's an argument to be made that too much on either side is a scary thing. I think that the discussion that should be taking place is whether it's the 'elite' that should be kept in check (these days, taxes seems to be the controversial topic) or government (since money makes the world go 'round, so taxes again), aren't we all (assuming we're lower/middle) kinda in the same boat?
There are arguments to be made that big business is dependent upon the lower/middle, but isn't government subject to the same? How do we get what we want without playing to either side?
Maybe that is the discussion. Maybe y'all are trying to point to where the line should be drawn...it's all just so hyperbolic that it's hard to figure out what you're saying. But in a way, it's a good problem to have.

If you make some old broads coffee too hot then Starbucks could be sued for $2million but they dont pay your ass $2million do they? No, they pay you $9.50 because that is all you are worth day to day. Its just how it is. Fine, you found one CEO who was contracted with a 3 million annual pension. The rest everyone was bitching about on CNN got like 1-2mil for their ETF (which is what conan had). And again, that asshole had a bigger impact than anyone else on the company, they contracted to him what they thought would be value he brought.Im now E30less.

Share holders rarely ever get fucked unless the Government steps in (Think GM) or the company goes under. You should be complaining about the share holders because they are the ones who put pressure on the company to make them more money.
If we do as you're thinking many companies would flat go out of business. Unless you expect the Government to be the one to dole out who makes what. We both know that wouldn't work. So let the free market be the free market.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

the only thing we can all agree on is that the government needs to spend less money.
Why not compromise and cut spending on every single thing? Then no one can bitch more than the other.
I think people have a mentality that government spending doesn't matter, even the simple things. Spread that out over millions of people and there is a problem.Originally posted by z31maniacI just hate everyone.

^^^Cut spending is the obvious solution. You can compare how many employees it take to perform a service with what is done elsewhere. Then evaluate if conditions are similar and then take a hard decision... Cut off people.
Then what about all the subsides? Oil companies, corn farmers etc, reseachers, social support groups. Which ones will you cut?
Start by stopping NASA programs (who need space reseach anyway?), warfares in the Middle East, military bases in Germany... etc. Where do you cut?
Deciding where to cut obviously becomes quickly ideological. And everybody will have to say things against and pro...
Why not cut tax cuts to the rich and wealthy people to start with? ;-) Only reply if you make $250k + yearly.Last edited by Massive Lee; 12-23-2010, 06:04 AM.Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

How about only American Citizens respond to this thread.......
What has space research brought us?
Instant television
Since Telstar, the first television satellite in 1962, viewers have watched events almost as they unfolded - from the assassination of President Kennedy to the terrorist assault on the twin towers in New York.
Meteorology
Weather forecasting was once little more accurate than folklore. Now satellites can monitor drought in Africa, floods in the Bay of Bengal and hurricanes across the Caribbean, saving hundreds of thousands of lives.
Navigation
Lone yachtsmen and jumbo jets now make pinpoint landfalls, and polar explorers with mobile phones can guide rescue craft to the precise ice floe, thanks to global positioning satellites.
Fuel cells
Invented by a Victorian barrister, the Grove fuel cell was ignored until the Apollo programme. Now German cars and Chicago buses are testing the ultimate green fuel - hydrogen, with water as the exhaust.
The environment
Space platforms monitor pollution, measure forest destruction, survey agriculture, identify mineral deposits, spot buried archaeological structures and even uncover agricultural fraud.
Medical health
Spacesuit studies have led to a panoply of health monitors, warning systems, respirators, remote microphones and other miniaturised medical technology.
Robotics
Space engineers have to think small - and flexible. This has inspired a new generation of tiny sensors, monitors and automaton explorers heading for distant planets.
Materials
Apologists always mention non-stick frying pans. But the most dramatic could be aerogel: featherlight but supporting 4,000 times its own weight. Nasa christened it "frozen smoke".
Laptops
Space missions needed onboard computers. But they had to be small. So space research drove the industry to pack ever more power into ever ever smaller hardware.
Weapons
Wernher von Braun's V2 rocket was the first thing to reach the edge of space. It changed warfare just as dramatically as it changed the peace.Build your own dreams, or someone else will hire you to build theirs!
