Only if this was the 1950's or even 80's, this guy would of had a car "accident" or rock climbing "accident" by now and it would barely make 6 o clock news.

So you're not okay with this guy proving that governments the world over are lying waffleswaffleswaffleswaffless who cant be trusted as far as you can throw them? Your reaction stinks of having a scope of understanding that ends somewhere past how attractive your sister is.

I don't support releasing details about regular troops, but there is a lot of shit that wikileaks is releasing that is showing the true colour and opinions - behind all the diplomatic felatio - which needs to be brought out to keep the bastards honest.

Besides, Wikileaks is not new. Goverments leak sensitive info like a sieve leaks water, and 9/10 nobody is prosecuted for supposedly undermining the authority of western governments (nobody went after Woodward and Bernstein?). What is new is that there is a public face and organisation putting this shit out and standing up and being open about it.

You're really not seeing the big picture. Why are the troops fighting? Is it honest to the troops to order them to fight for dishonest reasons or purposes? To mislead them?

Yes, what Wikileaks does is obviously not helpful to the Current American Political and Military Agenda, but the Current American Political and Military Agenda is far from beneficial to Americans.

It states in detail the procedures and tactics used by American soldiers in the deterring/fighting of insurgents. To me, that brings added risk to the soldiers, or am I wrong about that?

any "insurgents" worth their bacon already know the American tactics.

I knew that would be answer, and even though you are probably right, it's the fucking principal behind it. He leaked sensitive information, and therefore should be dealt with accordingly.

"He" leaked... Who leaked? All we know is that several printed medias as well as WikiLeaks are carrying the info. Nobody knows yet who leaked the sensitive info. And it is sensitive only because it makes diplomat look pretty stupid. Most of that info is stuff that everyone already knew in substance. When the US diplomats tell each other that the Afghan government is corrupted, well guess what? It was all over the news a year ago. And everyone knew anyway that Karzai's posse is a bunch of crooks.

Ok, you guys are right. Wikileaks is a beneficial source of info to the whole earth and should be praised for there heroic robin hood-esque efforts of telling the earth what really happens.

He called the first girl an 'uber liberal academic feminazi'. Seriously? You don't even know the girl's name (it hasn't been released) yet you somehow know her most personal political views and opinions? How could he know anything bout her when he doesn't even know who she is? He then goes on to bash the group that Assange was speaking for, calling it all kinds of terrible things too. Why? What does that have to do with the story or the 'rape' allegations? He says they're a 'Hardcore uber left-wing activist group with anti-semitic ties'. It's just one more shady, back-handed poke in the eye against people he disagrees with politically. He even attacks a bunch of random Swedes in a video, calling them 'Social democrats. Remember, that's what we used to call communists'. First off, it still has nothing to do with the allegations. Secondly it's flat-out wrong. Communists are communists, social democrats are large political parties in many, many industrialized nations and have absolutely nothing in common with communists. But the people who watch Glenn Beck are too braindead to pick up on that, they'll just accept it as fact and go on listening.
A first class rant sir. Well done.

Have to say I agree. But I guess ya get a bit of that living in a 'social democracy'.

Also, have doubts over conspiracy theorys. If he's extradited to the Swedes, the US is probably shit outta luck getting him back to the States.

So I had a conversation today with a coworker and he was adamant that Assange should be brought up on espionage charges in the US and sent to prison.

He also said the only reason this isn't happening is because Eric Holder (the US AG) is a lap-dog of the president and Obama doesn't want the leaks to stop because he thinks that it'll 'clear the air' around all the stuff that's been happening over the last 10 years and somehow the 'honesty' of them will make up for our foreign policy gaffs in the past :loco:

Either way, Is this guy technically breaking US law? Has he done anything illegal by disseminating this information? Could he be prosecuted for a crime? I'm honestly not sure, I've heard the answer is a resounding 'No', but my coworker maintains that he committed a crime.

Also, did wikileaks distribute the information to the various newspapers around the world, or did they all get it at the same time from some anonymous/unnamed source?

"Details of the latest WikiLeaks dump appeared Sunday in publications that included the weekly German magazine Der Spiegel, the French newspaper Le Monde, the New York Times, England's Guardian newspaper and the Spanish newspaper El Pais."

I suppose that the world's five most notorious newspapers also committed the same crime then... So far, they still publish. Also ask your colleague to mention one or two of the leaks. Chances are that he won't even be able to mention one of the 250,000 documents. The documents are nothing more than cables, quick communications between officials. Sure, the site of a nuclear power plant may be identified, but nothing that can't be found in the Yellow pages. I suggest to sue the Yellow pages too.
