Also, it looks like the US Army has 4,393 M1A1s, and 1,174 M1A2. The Navy has a handful more. We aren't going to miss parts for 125 Abrams, but any amount of money in the billions looks good :)

I'm looking for a Lachssilber Passenger Fender and Hood. PM if you have one or both to sell! -
A few things to point out.
First, the Abram isn't exactly high tech. It went into service in 1980, and we still use it as our main battle tank. But the US having a main battle tank is like Switzerland having a Navy, borderline pointless. US technology goes into making sure no tank ever crosses the ocean to our soil, and making sure we can reach across that vast ocean and touch others. Tanks don't serve either of those goals very well.
The rest of the world uses tanks, because the rest of the world is more likely to engage in a land battle than a sea battle. Because the rest of the world uses them, the United States is VERY good at destroying tanks. I'd hate to know how fast our airforce could turn 125 Abrams into rubble if they saw fit to do so.
As for "American jobs", we are selling to them parts made by us, no? This increase american jobs, not lowers them. Far better than when you make a trip down to walmart.
As for selling our defense technology to other countries... News flash many united nation countries are using our gear. But it's rather irrelevant, since I think even the combined power of NATO would have a difficult time trying to invade the United States.
And while I'm sure we know just about everything about "enemy tech", we know even more about the stuff that we designed. No guessing games as to where the weak link is, we already know :)Comment

Yes of course because we always transport military equipment overseas with Fed Ex. How did our equipment make it over to Iraq...

I'll concede there. All very good points. Although I'd still like to see those jobs over here even for assembly.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

Tanks in iraq are obviously shipped by the military. You know, the guys with huge ships, transport planes, etc, and soldiers to protect them. Weapons made by a military contractor and sold to another country don't use the military to ship their goods.Comment

broken sarcasm detector?

We were talking about the idea that if we made them and shipped them...they would clearly be shipped via the military. Which means nothing at this point anyways.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

clearly you're missing the sarcasm in my posts. My claims about shipping issues are as absurd as whatever your point is about selling a handful of tanks to egypt.Comment

That's another issue I know nothing about. If they are turning around and selling the tanks. But it is a good point.

The tanks we sell the Egyptians don't have the same armor as ours, and is less high-tech. I don't see the problem in letting them build inferior tanks, giving us the money, and letting us build some of the parts over here too. How will NOT selling the tanks to them help us?
Also how much of the technology in the Abrams is from America? Not the gun, nor the armor, which just leaves the power pack in terms of the big 3 traits of a tank, which isn't superior to alternatives.Comment
