Someone needs to complain about this kind of stuff. It's a perfect example of how our rights are slowly being eaten away. We live in a country with no national religion - yet people pretend that christianity was the driving force behind the formation of the US.

there is truth to that. What if we had a giant crescent moon or Star of David on the site and just claimed that its there for reasons besides religious?

9/11 and the trade center attacks had nothing to do with Christianity. So good. There is no need for a cross representing Christianity at the location. I don't know for SURE but I am pretty sure more than Christians were victims of the attacks on this country on 9/11.

Side note - The 9/11 documentaries are pretty compelling. Really makes you question some things..."We praise or find fault, depending on which of the two provides more opportunity for our powers of judgement to shine."Comment

To be fair, God isn't mentioned in the Constitution, but is referenced in the Declaration of Indepence as being responsible for "our inalienable rights."Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

Pretty sure it wasn't very comforting to the guy that got hung on it 2000 years ago......;)
Sam Kinison nailed it.....no pun intended.
Actually, I don't really care.....someone is going to politicize it, and someone else is going to be pissed, and so on, and so on.....Comment

Really? Look at the morals instilled by our founding fathers(and themselves). I also assume you're one of the people who doesn't understand how the "separation of Church and State" came about? True yes, we were not made for(nor do I want or believe in) a national religion, but those values and Godliness WERE foundational in the creation of the US.Comment

OK. So our morals were the foundations... but we have no national religion. Keep in mind these founders came to this country to flee religious persecution... you know so they could do whatever they wanted in regards to religion. So now where does this cross on the side of a monument come from? The United States was attacked and we do not have a national religion... The United States was attacked. Put up a cross?

You didn't hear us complaining and suing that there was no cross. And yes, where else do our morals come from? Separation of church and state came from, and was taken out of context from a private letter of George Washington to a the leader of a interest group congratulating him, but also expressing his concern that they would be forced to conform to a certain religion. Just because theres no "national religion", doesn't mean theres no religion in the nations founding and set-up.Comment

There was nothing to complain about. The attacks had nothing to do with Christianity so why would there be a cross? I don't complain that the location church has a cross on their steeple. I don't care. When you want to plop one on a national monument I do not think that is right.
Think about this. What does putting a cross on this monument say about the United States? Come to the US we tolerate everyone but we were attacked and people of all race, color and religious view were killed but we put up a cross for Jesus.
I love the 'our founding fathers were Christian' when like anything... you can quickly find quotes to disprove that...
Millions of innocent men, women and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity.

But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
-Thomas Jefferson, Notes on Virginia, 1782
Where the preamble declares, that coercion is a departure from the plan of the holy author of our religion, an amendment was proposed by inserting "Jesus Christ," so that it would read "A departure from the plan of Jesus Christ, the holy author of our religion;" the insertion was rejected by the great majority, in proof that they meant to comprehend, within the mantle of its protection, the Jew and the Gentile, the Christian and Mohammedan, the Hindoo and Infidel of every denomination.
-Thomas Jefferson, Autobiography, in reference to the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom
Thomas Jefferson... someone very important to our country.
