the problem is it would take themselves down too. Basically the same outcome as a thermonuclear war - everyone loses.

that's a much better answer than your first posting...

You are right, America purchased almost 200 billion in war bonds durning WW2. As well as the gov. passing the Victory Tax of 1942 which sharply raised income taxes and allowed the first time the gov. to directly take taxes out of your paycheck.

As far as China owning 1/3 of our debt, that number continues to grow as interest and borrowing continues.

Never said this was going to happen this week or this year either. Our Gov. will continue to borrow as this country continues to bleed. Our gov does not understand the word savings and our people have gotten adjusted on living off hand outs and off the backs of the few.

I see our debt continuing to grow as we keep extending bailouts, feeding entitlement programs, and bailing out the rest of the world.

There will be a day when someone says enough is enough. And when that does happen... hold on

        Serious Question

Did you just fall off the stupid tree? Why would the US ever default debt paid out in USD? Just print more dollars. Problem solved.

has little grasp of the situation it seems

This very situation was explained to me at age 7, while watching a us civil war documentary. The south was broke, I asked my Mom why didnt they just print more money? It was explained to me why you cant just print money (in very basic terms), if a 7 year old can grasp this concept surely you with at least 10 more years of life on you can grasp such a concept as well??

actually, monetizing the debt is almost always what happens when the level becomes unsustainable. it's nearly the only way out of it. Europe can't do it because of the decoupled currency/fiscal union.

I never said it was a good idea. I said that's almost always what is done.

anyway, none of this has anything to do with "china being nazi germany and wanting to attack us and kill all americans" nonsense.

I was not referring to Nazi Germany being the same deal as China.

1920ish Germany was not under Nazi rule then. It was the post WWI destitute state riddled with Hyper inflation known as Weimar. Nazi's did not come to power until 1933

sounds like America has a bigger chance of being Nazi than China does.

you can count me in blaming the American versions of Hitler aka our war and fear mongering political leadership. But the rest of America, I love. I have a vested interested here just like anyone else so I would hate for some trigger happy idiot screw that up.

That's a no because when you say America, I assume you mean all Americans and the likes of it including me (an American). I meant to blame the small bunch of tin foilers that are in power (surprisingly) and have the ability to subjugate and legislate honest Americans to do their bidding.
