Why you feel america is failing

This is just a general question as to why you feel america is failing as a whole. Not on any one issue.

My general feel is that it simply comes down to us, not the government. Being that the government is a reflection of the country as a whole, and vice versa. We as a country have become scarred of the people we elect. At some point in our history we went from running the gov to letting it run us. We've become sheep simply burying our heads in the sand and hoping that the next elected official will somehow make things better. Or figuring that if it doesn't effect you personally than why worry, when the fact remains that no matter how small the issue, it effects us as a whole.

I've been lucky enough to get to travel the world to decent extent. And no matter where I go I'm always surprised at how active people are in their governance compared to us. When other populations are getting screwed as a whole they come together for change. Irregardless of their personal views on the subject. We on the other hand can't and won't do that. We find it easier to voice our opinions among each other on the net, but never taking it to the street where it would actually do something. We had a proud history of activism (civil rights, women's rights, racial equality, ect), and now we ostracise people for doing it (occupy, glad, ect.).

We all hope for the best, but it seems like in america no one is willing to actually do something about it. I think this lack of balls as a population is doing nothing but pushing us towards the exact things we fear the most. In the end we have the country we ultimately deserve, for it's our own inaction that has led to the current state we live in.

So a hand full of views and no comments. Not sure if it's cause no one has something to add of if it's just an example of the above statements.

Dont be fooled by other nations and what you see from the polititions, we are still the light of the world. When our economy starts to fall theirs fell. Look around UK asking for money help, icland bankrupt, puerto rico supposly is next. You have crime on the uprise, nuclear test on the other by Korea, dictatership here and there. Other politition trying to win their country in hopes to cash in before their elect time is up and on and on.. But we here in America remain strong.

                      A. Productivity and hard work is punished
                      B. Laziness and government dependency is rewarded
                      C. The government can bribe the people with their own money, which perpetuates A and B

It's not other countries politicians that interested me. It was the people, their ability to come together despite their opposing views of a subject. The only time we seem to come together is during a national disaster, otherwise it's all bout party lines. And the thought of crossing those is unthinkable. We've become the lap dogs of a ruling class we created, basically taking a step back in our history. Back to when a few rich people controlled the fate of a nation. It's ironic that we idolize people like teddy roosevelt and then turn around and undo all the things he fought for.

I believe America is failing in the sense that it is getting worse, but still head and shoulders better than most other countries (except California, which shouldn't be taken as an example of America, and ought to be its own country anyway).

My take is the general mentality Americans of the modern day have conformed to: entitlement. It is generally the trend now that people believe more and more that they are entitled to more and more things, or "handouts" if you will. Work ethic is declining, and people want more for less, which if you use a simple conservation of energy or mass analogy (yes I'm a geek), one simply can't have more for less in the big picture. one has more for more or less for less. If someone has more for less, someone else has less for more.

Sorry if that got a bit confusing...

America isn't failing. It's just not our century anymore.

It's not stagnation, it's not decay.. it's maturation.. middle age.. and now young whippersnappers like China and India are going to walk the same walk.
