You know what would be great addition to the P&R forum? Is if every thread got put lock down after 10 pages.
Seriously. The first 10 pages of almost every thread I've commented on in this subforum have been great, always VERY opinionated but nonetheless interesting to read, even if I don't agree with some peoples' comments. Almost always well thought banter, save for a few trolls that pop up now and then.
But after the first 10 pages or so? Every thread, and I mean EVERY thread turns into a shitshow of congressional-levels-of-worthless bickering. The dialog almost always devolves to
Liberal: "You're a terrible person because you hate [insert minority here] and poor people and your guns are bad and you're so stingy with your money and you're an evil person, psychobabble" wrapped up into a ball of poo and thrown
Republican: "You're a terrible person because you think I hate [insert minority here] and poor people and you want to take my guns away and you want me to give all my money away and you're an evil person, psychobabble" wrapped up into a ball of poo and thrown
I really wouldn't care so much if I didn't get notified that there's new posts in a thread I posted in just to see this shit when I've got a break from work. Because I have better things to do in the day than read "Mehr, you're stupid, your opinions are stupid, mehr". I know I could just not read them, but I can't help but seeing if anything coherent was written. Which, usually, that's not the case after page 10.
In short, fuck 10+ page P&R threads, petition to lock P&R threads after 10 pages requestedComment

It's on page 10 yet, noob.

Great example here. I work at a nice restaurant in a nice hotel in la jolla down here in SD. During the employee meeting today up coming min. wage hike was discussed. Employee salaries take %50 operating costs, the min wage will increase by %22 and the numbers are down %11, for the restaurant, from last year. How to cover losses without raising prices? cut staff. without cutting staff? raise prices.Comment

I could be totally wrong....but managment loves to make up numbers like that.
I don't know about your workplaces details, but I've heard that song and dance many times when I was in my 20-30's. It's the management's job to convince you that they can't possibly give you a raise. "We'll all go under! Do you want to be out of a Job!?!?!?"
It's management 101. Keep the employees scared, and only pay them enough to get by.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

I think I see the point you're trying to make - people do put down things like "ditch digging" (which is really running an excavator, which really isn't a bad job to have). Actually, the idea that everyone should go to college is the reason for the huge gap in qualified people in trades like welding.
I actually specifically remember my parents trying to scare me into doing my homework or I'd become a "ditch digger", whatever that really means. it's not like they have guys with shovels.
plus, there are plenty of not terribly smart and not terribly motivated people who make lots of money. you'd think most people in engineering would be sharp but some of these guys are dumb as posts. thankfully they don't seem to last long here..Comment

That said usually when you dig a hole or ditch, there is a reason, like putting your water line or poop pipe in, these are 2 big examples where there most defiantly is a man normally 2 in the bottom of that ditch with a shovel fine tuning the actual grade final grades (gravity powered sewer lines like most areas have have a very specific gradient they have to be installed at or they dont work right) installing the individual pipe sections, over seeing the 1st few feet of cover to protect the new pipe, watching/directing the operator how to dig when close to things like utilities, investigating "unknown" or unexpected snags..... There is a lot more to "digging ditches" than most anyone understands.
Nearly everyone I know associated with my current industry will make a very good living (especially right now that work is so plentiful) so long as you SHOW UP ON TIME AKA 20 MIN EARLY every day, think a little bit about what and how your doing your job, and work hard and do your JOB. In general make a good hand you will go to the next job.
Didnt we have the talk about the "dumb" engineers I ran across for a 2 large Big name oil companies getting into shale gas midstream operations a couple of years ago?? I ran across some more last month that work for a big Coal producer getting into Shale gas development and doing all of their own development from Down hole till it hits 3rd party transmission... Yeah, but you have to be willing to sacrifice your life for that good living.
For instance, I could go my NCCO and run cranes and make well north of $100k. But I'd spend 10 months a year away from home in an incredibly dangerous occupation.
Most people don't want to risk their lives for a paycheck. Hence making good money for relatively uneducated people.Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com
