Not all McDonalds jobs are minimum wage, if you need to support a family then the effort put in needs to outweigh the responsibility. People will argue that effort and motivation aren't a significant factor in one's success. If you can't find a better place to work than McDonald's with only a year's worth of employment history (bullshit) then they have a decent management progression program (as most major employers do). I've said it before, if you're not lazy or make stupid decisions, there is no reason to live on minimum wage.

So that's it - everyone who's stuck in a low wage job is just lazy? that's basically been the right's position on everyone who hasn't been able to climb the economic ladder, and it's basically completely false. But yeah, everyone who's poor is beneath you right?

we know that low wage jobs aren't supposed to be for supporting your family. But theory and reality are two different things.

Whole lot of assumptions you made right there. If someone is stuck in a low wage job they have not put in the effort or made intelligent decisions to better their economic position. Don't think I said or implied that they are "beneath me", I simply made a statement that expresses an opinion. Go ahead and explain to me how it's false? Also, low wage and minimum wage are not the same thing in the context of this discussion.

Most people "stuck" at a minimum wage job are there because they're simply too concerned with either smoking weed all the time, drinking, partying, fucking broads and taking care of (sometimes anyway) kids because they fucked said broads. All of these things consume massive amounts of time & resources, not leaving much left for you to focus on bettering yourself/finding a better job.

This is based off of what I've seen from my time in the food industry anyway (about 1.5 years in my teens). And even then you had to be pretty fucking worthless to stay stuck at minimum wage starting pay. Turnover was fairly high so there was always room for slight advancements and raises. Pretty much if you didn't come in to work high every day and actually showed up (at least reasonably on time) you'd be good. Sometimes you'd get the feeling that some of the "lifers" didn't actually want a better job... like they literally lived for getting high while working and having close to zero responsibility.

Even then I'll admit that it'd be tough/impossible to raise a family while working for a fast food chain... but then again, this isn't communist utopia, not everyone can have a 60" flatscreen and the latest iphone. Until people are willing to spend $15 (in the current economy, not with future inflation accounted for) on a cheeseburger things just aren't gonna change.

So now they are lazy and stupid? Based on what, your opinion? There couldn't possibly be other reasons that an otherwise hard working, intelligent person is stuck in an economic rut?

The sentence you just wrote was pretty clear. Also i don't have to prove you wrong, all you have done is made up a statement with nothing to back it up.

you want to play the former president quote game with me ????? I am pretty sure I can come up with plenty of refuting (in principal) quotes from much greater men than FDR......

I guess to FDR 4 bucks an hour ( in modern inflation adjusted dollars) was a living wage then. Even at its peak in the 60's you think you can raise a family on 20ish grand a year, ????? Nice to see you have fallen for more of the great progressive rhetoric of old

I suppose "more than bare subsistence level" means the new iPhone, coach purse, Gucci shades, streetable poly mounts, etc... One day at minimum wage can be more than a family makes in a week in another country. A family that is totally happy with life and thankful for every waking moment. Makes their own tortillas, hunts with bows and arrows for food, you get the picture...

I know what you're doing here, but most people realize that it's possible for a regularly motivated and intelligent individual to make lazy and stupid decisions. We all do it in many different ways. Do I pack a lunch or buy lunch? I know the intelligent answer, but sometimes I'm too lazy. You get the picture. When it comes to employment and the responsibility that goes with CARING FOR MY FAMILY without anyone else's assistance I take great care it not making stupid or lazy decisions. To answer your question, I've never been poor...I was broke for most of my twenties as a result of my decisions, some were good and others weren't so good...but I didn't need to rely on minimum wage to pay the bills. So go ahead and dismiss this like everything else that doesn't fit inside the box you've built for yourself, that's fine. People who choose to make excuses for their lack of success have no place.

Want to keep this short but really put off by this. Read many comments in this thread and sad to know that the same people on here with such good taste in automobiles could have the worst taste in politics. First off I don't condone socialism or free hand outs. It's a free country to say what you think and some opinions expressed here are just appalling, and like some one who belongs to a hate group, your better off keeping those opinions to yourself, because you sound like a CRAZY IGNORANT ASS. And any one apposed to raising the minimum wage in my opinion is a greedy ass hole and deserves that affair your wife is having. At least Seattle had the balls to do something, maybe it's high maybe it's not, I'm not gonna make an eloquent economics argument because there is no arguing the fact that this country has a serious wealth gap issue and enough people can't survive working a legitimate job these days. Bootstrap American dream don't exists anymore. The system has collapsed, may as well raise your confederate flag, bring back slavery that's more economical. If you have all the money and no one else has money to spend the money becomes worthless. The trend in the country is very apparent and felt by everyone rich and poor. Even if you make $100k a year these days in most cases your scraping by. The day I can't feed my family by my own hard work no matter how "hard I work" u better "hide the wife, hide the kids and hide your husband too"! I would love to meet some of you at a show, but if your opinions are as right winged as some in this thread, please avoid this lazy poor good for nothing, it may rub off on you.

Ps. No quotes b/c not gonna single out the Fawking bunch a Bill O'reillys and Trumps in here. But..."disappointed head shake" thought y'all was cool
