my brother (middle school math teacher) would be more of a subject matter expert than i. meeting with the family for a BBQ on sunday- i'll pick his brain then and let you know what he thinks. i can tell you that he's not a fan of common core.
my current opinion: using the states' rights argument to handle the responsibility of educating children will result in economically disadvantaged states (looking at you, midwest and south) delivering an inferior educational product/experience, further entrenching these states in a higher-than-average poverty level.

So, philosophical question.
Why are you OK with the Feds running the EPA, but not the Dept of Education?
Certainly if people don't like a pollution filled area, like the Cuyahoga River in Ohio in the 1960s with the river catching fire, they can just pick up and move somewhere that has implemented anti-pollution policies, yes?
That's the conservative message, yes? If you don't like your job, find a better one. No jobs where you live, move to where there are jobs, etc etc ad nauseum.
Please don't tell me that you are going to argue in favor of "No Child Left Behind."Leave a comment:

yeah because it's the fedgov's fault that half the kids who grow up in mississippi and arkansas are effectively retardedLeave a comment:

Meaning there is some justification for the existence of the EPA, but none for the dept of ed.
if ever there was proof that powers not given to the federal government are supposed to be reserved for the states, the dept of ed is the poster child.Leave a comment:

Frankly there are a lot of us that want the excesses of the Federal government rolled back, and the two that needed it most were the EPA and dept of education. How are you surprised? Trump has selected one person after another that was against the department they ran.
Pruitt wanted to abolish the EPA and as Ag of OK sued it over & over.
DeVoss hates education.
Perry said he would abolish the department of energy during his Presidential run (when he could remember what it was called)
On & on & on.
