Yeah, there appears to be nothing to it. I was just going to take some before and after measurements of throw and shifter height.

I was considering using some rubber washers of some sort between the body and shift console to help eliminate some of the vibrations, as my car vibrates pretty bad as it is with the 75D bushings all around.

This is exactly what I'll be doing for my recently purchased '88 325is. I'm pretty sure most of my shifter's problems are due to toasted bushings... but also bought the 1.9 lever since it's relatively inexpensive and the whole thing will be apart anyway. We have two MINI's with SSK's that I dislike quite a bit, so 'notchiness' is to be avoided. I also know I don't want the shift knob to be much - if any - lower than stock.

Well... as I stare at the underside of my car... I can see this is going to be one hell of an annoying project... :(

FWIW, the how-to on Pelican makes it look like there's waaaay more room to work than there really is...

            Quick question...
What bushing/shifter cup is used when installing the Z3 /current lever in the metal console retrofit ?
I copied a post about using 2-3 ? new ball cup/bearings and resizing thickness of one as a spacer ? and using the stk circlip, but of course I've no idea where that info was posted thanks

Wish I could help, this whole plan hasn't come to fruition yet... I've been buying up guns and gun related things instead and just making repairs on the car from my last track day.

z4 shifter, UUC bushing replacements, MOMO knob, I love the setup. It is very spot on and quicker.

My brother is rocking the z3 with stock bushing replacements. I think the z3 is a perfect DD app.

Could you guys recommend a lever for me? M50 with the IS gearbox.
My only problem is that 5th gear seems really "far away" and I'm insecure of revving 4th high and accidentally throwing 3rd in. For 5th I use the "push away" technique where I'm not holding the shifter, but pushing it out and forward with my palm in an angle.
                  Thank for any advice.

I like my z4 3.0 shifter. It took a little bit to learn the feel of the new setup and let everything loosen up but the more I use it the better it feels.

It is quite short though and it takes a fair bit more effort to find second. Haven't tracked it this way yet so we'll have to wait and see.

i've been thinking of trying the cosmo racing shifter extension because i cant seem to find a shifter that sits as high as the oem one does, and i like that height on my track car.

try jaffster knob sold at BW..or go for an X5 lever.
I love sitting down and just driving!

I'm using a B&M, have had it in the car for a few years now and have yet to break it so I guess that's a good sign. To be honest the shifter helped (throw lenght isn't a huge deal to me as long as its accurate/precise) but the UUC DSSR made the bigest change in feel; it really took all the excess slop out of the shifter...
