What to do for brakes short of a Massive kit?

How long has the 1/2 can been opened? I generally don't use anything that's been opened more than a couple months, but I'm paranoid.

CO isn't bad at all really either. Is there any way to "inspect" the fluid? I don't imagine there is, but I should be tackling my brakes here in a week or so.

I would just buy new fluid to be on the safe side.

Here's a bit of logic.

- Scenario A
A new can of fluid is opened. Some of the content is used, the rest remains in the can. After being opened to air for 3 minutes, the cap is put back on. No moisture goes thru the steel/plastic container from now on. Therefore, the fluid was exposed to potential moisture for only 3 minutes. How much moisture was absorbed by the hygroscopic brake fluid? Most likely an infinitely small amount.

- Scenario B
The fluid in the braking system absorbs moisture thru the brake and clutch rubber lines, 24hr a day. Then the fluid reservoir cap also is opened to moist ambiant air as there's a small hole in the cap.

Conclusion: make your own. But personally, I have no problem using brake fluid from a container that was opened a year ago, as long as it stayed closed the whole time. Anyway, more moisture will have found its way into the fluid thru the hydraulic system.

lol, that's what I was thinking but wasn't going to say because I'm sure there's some e-expert willing to crucify me.... I'll be using fluid from the old can because I used it once, sealed it, and it's been sitting in a box in my basement since.

LOL lee you make me laugh and that^^ is so correct. I feel a metal can(ate blue) as long as its capped even if its open for 30 minutes while you bleed your brakes(in a dry area like Tucson) you will get nearly no moisture into that can. And you are also correct any moisture that is going to be getting into the fluid is going to be coming from the fluid sitting in the car.
