    Wow... what unfortunate timing.

    My PS pump went on my car... wow, NO way i could track like this. After a morning session your upper body would be sore and your arms behave much like linguine. Get that PS working. The 5hp you save, will set you back in terms of consistency and precision...
    No more e30s for me.

      with R-comps at 25mph my car is still scary hard to turn without PS. I had the belt fall off (forgot to adjust the tensioner) as I went around the corner. Ugh, no thanks.

      I do wish the system wasn't so leak prone. I don't get leaks at the rack, but the resivior seems to sweat PS fluid around the hoses no matter what you do. And BMW was still using the same PS resivior design up until at least a few years ago.. you'd think they'd fix it by now.

        My PS went on the last lap of my recent track day. I just spent about $150 on a new pump, reservoir, and mobil 1 fluid to keep it from happening again - because it certainly wasn't fun or a more precise "feel" driving without the ps.

            Why don't you just take the belt off and see how you like it? That's not a permanent solution, but it will be fine for you to put a few miles on and see if you like it.

              Ill prolly try that tomm....but it will be hard to get a TRACK feel on a public road( no matter how many laws I break...lol)

              But Ive read over and over that w/ just the belt off, the feel is different than when the system is properly removed and blocked off.

                I don't see how it would be different. most guys are either looping the lines or capping the bolt holes - the rack isn't lubricated by the fluid, at least that's the claim.

                  The car is way harder to steer with the belt off than with the PS properly deleted, I have done it both ways. It was very different when I did the proper delete, and while I haven't driven on r-comp, I have driven on 205 star specs and it is fine on the track and bad for autox. I don't mind it for street either. There are times when I am tempted to put PS back in but it's too much of a hassle.

                    Old thread I know.

                    I don't mind not having PS at all! I'm only running 205... Didn't have it on my FD either with 225 and didn't mind it then. I could see an issue with a low speed autocross courses maybe but not road racing. Mabye I'm buff and y'all are soft... Idk.

                      People who really race their E30's (SpecE30, PRO3..etc) remove the PS.

                      People who do track days keep it.

                      Yes, mine is blocked off, less sh*t to fail when on the track (you pit in a sprint race, you DNF.)

                        In a spec class with little tires, the extra horsepower is more important. It's a pretty simple equation.

                        That said, real race cars have electric power steering.

                            I drift a m50 with no ps, actually I prefer no ps. My last car was a m20 no ps and I drifted that for two years.. Powersteering isn't nesessary

                              I removed mine and have been enjoying it a lot, and I'm not a big guy by any means. AutoX'ing with 225 R-comps can be a bit of a workout at low speeds, but I do really appreciate the extra feedback. IMO it all comes down to preference, I'm very curious to see how it feels with an E36 rack.
