    Tracking an auto?

I recently bought an auto 325i and was thinking of taking it to a track day, bone stock, before I convert it over. I know the autos have a trans cooler built into the radiator, but is that sufficient for track use at 90F ambient temp?

The trans seems relatively healthy but I have to live with it until I swap it, so I don't want to get carried away on track and ruin it.

fuck no, you need a separate trans cooler man. those built in coolers are good for put-putting around town, definitely not for racing though, 10/10 that tranny won't last too many laps

go to a scrapyard and get yourself a few power steering coolers off of an explorer or something, should be able to last at least half a track day that way

          Why would you want to?

But, get yourself a manual as a back up, track the automatic until it dies, then give the car the transmission it DESERVES!

I think it would be fun/interesting to take it on a track that you have already been to and compare results with you other car. I say go for it.

The zf4hp22 is a fairly solid transmission and even land/range rovers had it with the 4.3l. The Forward clutches burn upbringing N and P but it shifts super hard it you adjust the kickdown. Kameron proved it doesn't like boost. Just for fun? I'd say flush the fluid clean and go for it. And have the AAA+ just in case (and EVERY e30 owner should pay the $180/yr for AAA)

But do point your GoPro backwards so you can post video of the smokescreen
it makes when it catches on fire.

Seriously, for a track day, I bet it's fine.

Years ago we took my friends bone stock auto e30 to the canyons to see what the deal was. Was hilariously pathetic cause we were barely moving and by the time we reached the bottom the brakes were on fire. So definetly get some good brakes, pads, and fluid you'll need it since the car would probably like to push through a corner at speed.
