I think that would go back to the whole "if your car is in good shape" thing....

You should probably overfill with a half-quart or quart of oil. The BMW block is canted so hard left turns allow the oil to slosh up the side of the block.

True. I would hate to track/auto-x a car in great shape though, there'd be less to fix after you're done.

It's not as easy on the car as highway driving, but as stated... if your car's in good shape... it shouldn't do any significant harm.

It WILL, however, bring out ANY shortcoming possible. Parts usually break because they're old/original/worn out, not because the cars are inherently bad... things like bushings, bearings, ball joints, mounts, etc really show their age once you start tracking.

As for the original question... I've been autocrossing since '91 and tracking since '99. For the last two years I've been an occasional instructor for NASA-VA (as well as other groups.) In the past year I've sold my Miata and started tracking/building this E30. I've done six or seven track days with it so far, and a couple of autocrosses. It's NEVER left me stranded... and I beat the shit out of it every chance I get :D

I love track events. However, this was drivers training at Bremerton Raceway in WA.

Not a regular track junkie but have brought my car to 2 race circuit in Malaysia....
                1) SAMP - where the World 500cc Motorcycle Championship was held (befreo venue changed to Sepang F1 Circuit)
                2) Sepang F1 Circuit...

Might be going to Sepang this coming sunday to try out my IE ARB settings...

I can't say it enough times, Alpina wheels look SOOOO GOOD without the centercaps.
