    I'm sorry.

Yeah, but who can machine these flywheels properly? Maybe there's a specific way it needs to be done? I obviously have never done it, nor do I know how.

Machine shops machine flywheels everyday. As long as you go to a reputable shop... they know what they are doing.

fixed. If you go to any old machine shop, chances are they will look at you like an idiot.

            sure, here it is:
            GC 400/650
            bils sports
            vorshlag camber plates
            solid rubber offset cabs
cabrio front sway with heim jointed links hooked to M3 style tabs
M3 rear bar with same links
AKG poly rear subframe mounts and TABs
custom trailing arm adjusters using E39 eccentric hardware (similar to the IE setup)
280mm front rotors with wilwood dynalite calipers
Hawk HPS for daily and auto-x, HT10 for track
            15x8 rota slips
225/45 hoosier R6 (not the best for auto-x, but they do double duty)

there may be more, but I forget ;)

What weight can you get an M20 flywheel down to?

How do the machine shops know when enough is enough?

                  Nice setup!

Can you tell us more about the Wilwood brakes?

Also, do you have a lightened flywheel?

I do have a lightened flywheel but I have not gotten around to installing it yet.

No, I drive an S52. The eta lives on jackstands.

And I never said there was anything wrong with M42's.. it's one of my favorite motors out there. M20's just "do it" for me.

The stock 323i flywheel weighs ~13 lbs. It still has meat that could be machined. I'm not going to throw a wild guess out there, but pretty light anyway.

I think the 318 would be a better candidate as well. I plan on selling my 88 ix and purchasing a 318is for STS or DSP purposes in the next month. $.02

for auto-x, 318is is the best car you could buy. the 325 will put you in the 6stock/6mod category, running e36 325/328's which will put a pounding on a e30 325.

with a 91 318is, your put into the 4stock/4mod, with your only competition being other 318/320's, and the M42 was the best 4 banger bmw offered in a non-M car. not to mention the weight difference between the e30 and e36.

I hope to pick up my 91 318is in a couple weeks

That depends under what sanction you compete under. Doesn't sound like SCCA, must be a BMWCCA thing .
