^ people run e46 m3 control arms, since they have a wider track with oem inner and outters with stock tie rod spacers. It is a mission though and a lot of measuring of the inner and outters for the correct length.
Personally that is a mission to me. A simple z3 e36 rack swap, take off the steering stops, and have someone make you knuckles with a different tie rod pick up point seems easier to me.
The e30's have great angle from the factory, they just have a really slow rack. Most people who want more angle from a e30 do not even need the extra angle. Only when you are a seasoned driver and really need that extra angle is when I would suggest to look into those modifications.
If you are not on the steering stops when your entering or initiating then I suggest more seat time instead of steering mods.
Who's drifting their stock M20?

yeeaaah i love this thread..my car is stock except for a kamotor intake which ive been happy with!
my question is for the florida guy who seems to know his way sideways pretty well.lol....how do I get crazy steering angle like that!!?!?!?!??
pleeease.
i think that, along with a e36 steering rack will make for a dope drift e30. i got my car in april and all my mods have been suspension/sways/cross brace. i mainly go out and practice/try in the rain cause its easier on me and the tires and the noise.
ive also heard that i dont want to stiffen up the chasis too much tho? i like the solid feel muuch more than flex but i wanted to hear some opinions on that also.it seems like that would be more preferance that rule of thumb if that makes sense....but that steering angle! HOW?lolLeave a comment:

Also if you slam your car and weld the diff, the odd angle of the axles have been known to cause them to break.Leave a comment:

[QUOTE=e30 gangsta;1046524 They put unwanted extra strain on your car and could break. .[/QUOTE]
If done properly, the welds will never break, even at 800+HP. However if not done properly the welds could break mid corner and send you into a wall, I have seen this happen.
If you weld your diff, do it right.Leave a comment:

Me doing about 65mph in this picture with a completely unmodified M20.Leave a comment:

I drift my almost stock m20 a bunch, you can get the tail out pretty easy with some stiffer springs in the back and with decent tires in the front, I just need a stiffer sway bar in the back to help out alittle.
Heres a video I took literally holding my Iphone out the window...
Not good drifting but you can get the pointLeave a comment:

^you do realize this thread is more than 2 years old
but good to know m20 power is enough to driftLeave a comment:

Uhh i Slide mine in 4th.
Stock m20b27
4.10 welded diff
"cold air"
2.5in straight pipe no cat
10k spings and billy sports all around
Haul the mall in 3rd to limiter, shift ebrake and clitch kick
she will ride out for a while but as soon as you let off she dies off. But i was entering faster then sr 240's. I do most of the track in 3rd tho. Lets me play with the throttle more. M20b27's are way under rated in my opinion. For autox and drag b27's may not be the quickest but it handles its own sliding. Im adding software and see if i can squeze out more from 4th.....Just saying it can be done.
as far as drifting an E30 M20...yes, as far as getting nitrous to drift... you should really just give your E30 to your mom because she could probably drift better if you think nitrous is a good starting modification on a stock M20 to drift with. Nitrous has its place, and that is the drag strip. Anyone who talks about nitrous for anything but a drag application is generally regarded by most of the automotive and E30 community as a moron.
As far as actually drifting an M20, get yourself a 3.73LSD and suspension, then get professional instruction or at least someone who knows E30 drifting to ride with you in a big empty parking lot to teach you to slide it.
As far as drifting in 4th... I doubt that, but whatever makes you smile when you write your tall tales for a couple dozen guys who know you're entirely full of shit. PS - if it has to be raining and on bald tires when you do the 4th gear drifts, maybe next time include THAT bit of deep imagery in your long winded "how srzbznz i dr1ftz" speech. We aren't going to assume you did a 4th gear drift across the arctic tundra in some massive ice race whenever you spend 5 minutes typing up a detailed visual of you drifting in 4th gear.
As far as the "it's obvious how many of you know the difference between a drift and a power over by this thread; not many comment" that was made... it's obvious you're an idiot being as a power over is a form of drifting, and this is a conversation about drifting stock M20's, which aren't exactly renowned for doing 100mph dynamic drifts. Also the guy is obviously new to drifting so to recommend much more than power over would be pretty stupid on your part. Nevermind the fact that almost all videos and pictures posted were E30 M20's in full counter steer, flying sideways. Last I checked... we call that drifting.Leave a comment:

Only problem drifting a stock M20 is everyone tells you to get some exhaust.Leave a comment:

I don't want to start a fight here but last time I weighed my GUTTED AE86 hatch it weighed in at 2150ish (and I mean gutted). I also work at a shop with a dyno dynamics dyno and my rebuilt bluetop with intake and exhaust mods puts down about 115hp and a whole whopping 100ft/lb of torque. A good running blacktop swap only put down 136 hp. The AE86 is not by any means a great drift car, id say its a fun challenging car.Thats kind of a dumb statement. You're taking a car that is an amazing stock drift platform and saying if it can drift then of course other cars can? Doesn't make sense. The 4ag/4age is super high revving, sturdy, great weight distribution and only weighs 2000lbs in stock form. Here's a quick summary for you: click here I would love to have one of these classic cars that was only produced for a few years.
The e30 is a great platform to slide with you just want an LSD, cruddy tires for the back, decent shocks and springs and track time.Leave a comment:
