It can be done. They got pretty good torque. Suspension will help it wonders though.

    Thanks,

    CAN"T FKING WAIT!!!!
unless you wanna pay for my parts, house, and school its going to keep going @ whatever pace i can afford/ have time for. Unfortunalty i cannot upgrade my car as fast i used to seeing as i have a certain level of life that i would like to maintain.

AS for your diff question. Welded diffs drive like crap all around. They put unwanted extra strain on your car and could break. There is no need for your wheels to be always locked, and it would suck driving that daily. Either pick up a kazz 1.5 way for like 1k or buy the upgraded packs from bimmerworld. You can check out diffsonline also.

In the end if you need to do it on the cheap i guess go welded.

If you have some expiriance with diffs then do the packs.

If you wanna be a baller get a kazz or a diffsonline diff.

    Up to you though.

    drifting = welded

you want to have fun with your car, do some auto-X's maybe some road racing, leave the LSD...you can actually replace the clutch packs in it with (bmw is it?) for around $60 and its like shimming the diff...i'll be doing that to my upcoming 2.93.

    Hey guys... New question!

3.73 LSD or 3.73 Welded for drifting? I just picked up a 373 LSD to replace my 410 welded, but I don't know if I should run just the stock LSD or have it welded? I think I am going to do an M50 swap soon, and then from there go to an M52 in the future.

If you ever plan on attending an event... give me 1-2 months notice, and I'll try to plan a trip up there.

Transporting my car would cost too much money and honestly would not be worth it over all, but I am always down to fly up there and see the different communities. I was pretty stoked to see the CA crowd a few weeks ago.

Erick, will you ever make it up to the northeast sometime or are there not enough events up here to make it worth the trip? I'd love a drift lesson now that I have a lot more horsepower, even if I never go to an event I think the car control is invaluable.

Good Lord I do hope I get to meet most of you at the e30 picnic this year.

I don't understand this whole, "Drifting isn't a real sport" thing. Nor do I understand the people who say so. If drag racing (which, I do believe started in the streets) is a real sport, then why isn't drifting? More importantly, it's motorsports. That's what really matters. It's also more than that. It's like racing and concours wrapped into one big, smoky pacakge. Anyone who is slightly interested in cars can appreciate that.

On a topic related note, if you're going to spend a lot of time bouncing off the rev-limiter, I highly, highly suggest replacing the oil pump drive gear bearing. And checking the block for cracks. But you probably already knew that...

Exactly. Just like everything else in this interwebz, there is a whole lot of mis-information going around, especially regarding something new such as drifting. I just share my knowledge based on experience to help clarify for others so that way it's not just random bragging about.

I don't have "drifter enemies". In the end, it's something where we can all relate. I am always more than happy to help out a fellow newcomer out.

That comment is mildly arguable, but for the sake of me not having the time to properly explain why, I'll let it go. Yes it's not a safe environment, but the reason "why" is always obvious: (apparently not so) common sense. But besides that, it is still illegal. So even as safe as you might be out there, there are still heavy consequences to endure.

I used to slide on the streets, it's basically a public fact, but lately there has been so many events locally that I have no need to take it to the streets anymore. 90% of the time, the track is a safer environment with room for error (& practice).

I should be spending a few weeks with the e30 with SoCal. Any of you guys are more than welcome to come to events happening over there in the meantime.

Here's a recent picture of the event where my motor blew hours before. I was driving the orange car:

All the car has is some old K-Sport coilovers and a welded differential.

By the way, the less power you have, the less ebrake you should be using.

TIGHT! damn mann, I wish I knew! thanks for telling me Jesse and Jon! I just met Mariano, but Jesse and Jon got my phone number and they didn't even tell me you were down here! dang it! i guess i ain't cool enough, pshh! lol
