I was in LA a week ago. I got to chill with Jesse, Jon, Mariano, and a few other guys.
My car should be at Willow Springs at the end of June if all goes as planned. I have recently driven stock KA-powered 240sx's to 500whp 1jz powered RX7s. A good driver should always be able to make the best of what's given to him.
Here's a recent picture of the event where my motor blew hours before. I was driving the orange car:

All the car has is some old K-Sport coilovers and a welded differential.
By the way, the less power you have, the less ebrake you should be using.

c'est clair! that's clear!
when you coming down to LA? I would like for you to drift my car when you are down here in socal... maybe at willow springs or el toro or which ever track permits when you're down here?, so I can learn a little bit more about your skills. I'd like to see you do HTM with my e30, but it's non-turbo, so a lot of handbrakes, hehe, unless you do it differently which is what I'd like to see and learn...Leave a comment:

Wrong.
It seems that time and time again many people keep arguing what's the true definition of a drift. By the text book, drifting is oversteering. If the rear end is out, you're drifting. Now, is it a proper method of drifting (by judging standards)? Not really, but it's drifting none the less.
Wanted to point that out before people start getting their own ideas.
From experience, 3 out of 4 people that complain about drifting is because the sport originated on the streets. They don't mind the sport itself (some just dont understand how you can justify the cost in tires), but the fact that it was done callously in the streets.Originally posted by e30rcrTo those that just hate on drifting in general. A lot of the guys here in the forum lightened up when more drifters started showing that there are track events to cater the drifters now, providing us with a safe place to practice.
Just wanted to clear those two points up.

If you don't ENTER a corner sideways, you will not win ANY drift event or even place. Power over is not a DRIFT.
Have you even seen professional drifting on TV? Gone to a drift event? Ridden with anyone drifting?
You really sound like you have no idea what your talking about.
As far as nitrous goes, there are very good applications for it in motorsports of all kinds, obviously you have never used it personally either.
Stop you inexperienced and blind ranting before it bites you in the ass.

Power over is not a DRIFT.As far as the "it's obvious how many of you know the difference between a drift and a power over by this thread; not many comment" that was made... it's obvious you're an idiot being as a power over is a form of drifting, and this is a conversation about drifting stock M20's, which aren't exactly renowned for doing 100mph dynamic drifts. Also the guy is obviously new to drifting so to recommend much more than power over would be pretty stupid on your part. Nevermind the fact that almost all videos and pictures posted were E30 M20's in full counter steer, flying sideways. Last I checked... we call that drifting.

just drift it! (at a track, obviously!) after that, you'll learn more about setups, but if you want pointers, then try my setup: (note: many ppl in here will talk shit about my setup, but they don't know better. I've been doing this shit long enough to know what's crack'eeeeeeeeeeeeeeen! plus this is what Mr. Tsuchiya himself told me to have for now; how I met him? well, my bro's gf is a pro-drifter, check her out, http://prettys13.com/)
- sway bars 25/22 mm
- strut bars, front and rears
- hard suspensions like h&r race w/bilsteins or a whole coilover setup (i just have pelican springs and kyb gr2)
- 225/50/15 for the front tires and 195/55/15 @50 psi (depending on how hot it is on the day of) for the rears on a 15x8 (0) offset wheel setup (it'll make our under-powered car slide easier with this setup)
- open diff will be hard to drift on because only one tire spins, so when i had an open diff, i was running 55-60 psi on rear tires (195/55/15 - rears while 225/40/17 - fronts)
- 3.73 rear end is what i have and it works perfect for a 325i
- weld your diff if you can and you will feel a ginourmous difference between drifting an open and a 2-way
I will be drifting for sure in a couple of months and I will have e30fiend, einstein57, e30polak, pe2one, lov-e30, coupper s, and whoever I can convince to come with me to video tape my session, so you can see how easily it can be done with my setup and put my name on this map.

Who cares if you drift a stock/modified car, as long as you're having fun and doing it safely(on the track) then all is well.Leave a comment:

I like you now. :DThis thread has failure written all over it. If you're going to drift your E30 just learn and do it. Dont ask a site like this about drifting because there are very few that approve of it to begin with. Everyone else including myself, can't stand this "drifting era" we have come into since the make of a certain movie that completely tatters the respect that anyone with a rwd car has for their car. Now its not, "hey dude, what does that thing run in the 1/4?" its, "hey dude!! Drift it!!!!" I can't stand this new fad.
Every Tokyo drift fan boy just needs to get the fuck lost.
If you want to learn, perfect it. Don't be an idiot and drift in full parking lots or in neighborhoods. Save all this for the track and nowhere else.
I'm done ranting

I drifted some rt615's on the AE86 with the stock 4.3 gears, stock engine, and an open diff for a while. They are great tires but with the lower power cars I tend to like cheaper less grippy tires for drifting, it just makes it a little easier.Lets here some more m20 success stories or tips from the pros, lol. Also a quick questions. I bought 4 tires fro my gaymaxx rims because it was a good deal but they turned out to be too small to look good on my car so i was thinking about getting my moneys worth out of the tires by drifting them till they are gone at a local drift practice.
THE QUESTION: the tires are 205/40/16 falkens treadware 200. Are these too sticky for a beginner drifter with basically a chipped ETA (have i cam and valvsprings and throttlebody but only a chipped eta ecu)
I ended up switching off of the rt615's due to cost and after switching to a welded I snapped an axle on less grippy tires.
We corolla guys snap axles like you guys break oil pans :-|Leave a comment:

So, do you drift your Girlfriend's 3000GT or what?I could care less if you can drift... that doesn't make you intelligent, and the lack of intelligence in your post towards me was the issue. I'm sure from everything I've seen around here with you in it you are a fantastic driver, and drift quite well in your E30, and probably other cars you use at the track as well. Make no mistake, my rebuttal was not a personal attack on your abilities as a driver.
Again, my basic point was the fact that this is obviously someone new to drifting or at least drifting an E30 stock. The first thing out of your mouth should have probably been to agree with me about doing suspension work before something like nitrous, even if you have a difference in opinion as to wether people should spray their stock M20 drift cars. As experience as you sound I'm sure you would agree with this yes? It is apparent you did at first only read the first paragraph otherwise you probably would have held your tongue on that comment about nitrous and my being close minded once you saw I was only saying that because the money should be put into suspension work if anything first.
As far as the use of nitrous goes, I have absolutely no problem with the stuff. It is a great and inexpensive initial-cost power adder. However anytime it is in the hands of anyone, like the OP, who sounds like there is a chance they might not be very experience at what they are about to try, I highly discourage spraying. Unless in a drag situation, where it is much harder to hurt yourself spraying.
Regardless of everything, you can't be a real expert at anything even if you're amazing until you realize everyone is not. So in short, to everyone out there, just always remember the people you're teaching about something might be well below the usual learning curve you speak to at the track.Leave a comment:
