they look like pizza cutters to me, but I guess I like baloon tires. ;)
Looks aside, I think the 235/50's would feel a little "sloppy" compared to 225/45's. Ultimate grip would be higher, but turn in and transition feel would suffer. I've run 225/50's on a 7" rim, and right now I have 195/55 Z1's-I greatly prefer the skinnier tire for overall track use. My next set will be the TR wheels with either 205/50's or 225/45's.

      My opinion, FWIW.

because 235s are actually pretty cheap! Hell, it's hardly worth it to buy a dedicated street tire, which is why I haven't yet.

oh that, and I dont realy want to cut into my fenders any more than I have to run wider flares. :p

I have found with my track experience that a bigger tire is not always better...although autocrossers here in the states tend to have one mantra "the wider the better" ....well maybe this is the case with autocross (along with very very hard suspension systems) because of the relatively low speeds involved different charictaristics apply but on a road course if the side wall is too big it really messes with the whole feel and transition of the car...
The cost of the tire really did not factor into my decision although I would like to stick with Toyo's for the time being..
I think a 225 section tire will be plenty of tire for the wieght and power of my e30....But with all things it is possible I am wrong

This is an incredibly glorious build, absolutely incredible. It truly is an inspiration because when I graduate in a year this car is what I will be aspiring to build(though I doubt I'll get even close!).

With 220+ HP, the 4:10 may be too low.

225/45/15 is the perfect size for E30's

maybe, but not if you have a high enough redline, and a motor capable of making power up there. a schrick 288 is definitely capable of 7200rpm.

valid points, but I haven't noticed anything with these, other than maybe weight. and they're still lighter than an equivalent street tire. technically, the 225/45s are undersized. I woudln't mind either, really.

What would be an alternative to the 4:10....? 3:93 or 3:73 or even lower??
Finally got it running tonight...will be hitting the dyno tomorrow hope my problems are behind me now...

It made 168 whp on our Dyno dynamics dyno with initial tune....Just for reference spec e30s usually put down around 137 -142 whp on our dyno
Cant believe how fast it revs....
Special thanks to tn325i for doing the closed course camera work :D:D
