    Leichtbau

What’s up guys, hopefully some people are still here.

You probably know me if you’ve been on here a while, but if not, my name is Byron. I’ve had e30’s for nearly 20 years now, and for the past 6 years, I was head of classics and restorations at Bullet Performance in Costa Mesa.

After a few years of trying to find a good location here in costal Orange County, my friend Khalil and I finally started our own shop. The name of the shop is Leichtbau, our goal is to be a place where enthusiasts can bring their cars while feeling comfortable and understood. Having worked at a few, I know that most shops can seem a bit transactional, but we think it can and should be a more personal experience. We are car nerds that have high expectations of ourselves, and we plan on exceeding the standards that you would expect from any other shop.

We specialize in classic BMW’s, but all European cars from the 60’s up to the mid 2000’s are welcome; the weirder the better. We can do everything from general service work to restorations and performance upgrades, including custom fabrication, engine swaps and full race car builds.

If you’re in the area and looking to get some work done, let us know! Once we get a bit more settled and our landlord repaves the lot, we plan on having an open house for everyone to come swing by and see what’s going on.

Nice, wrong coast here for a meet, but focused indy shops can do well since on road presence isn't too important. Don't forget to have everyone actually write down or otherwise record what/how they do stuff that isn't working on cars, so you can all review it and see what works/doesn't and pass it on to new or replacement people when the time comes. Real customer feedback is critical, follow up a service with a thank you call that's actually a crypto survey when it gets slow. If you have a parking space/display area in the shop be sure to rotate what lives there from time to time so the customer always has something new to see. Visit your business neighbors when they aren't busy, and become known as a font on knowledge for those local referrals. Be sure to have clear, friendly, signage if the layout for parking or inside the shop isn't totally clear, people don't like to overstep boundaries.

I miss working at a shop.

      Good luck with the venture!

Looking forward! Shops can tear you apart. Keep the thread updated with shop and projects!

Congrats on the new shop! I'll definitely plan on stopping by once I have my e30 running.

I've had Byron reinforce control arms and subframes before, welds came out clean and turn around was quick.

Not E30 related, but our friend Mike just put out the first video of his Audi engine rebuild that we're doing at our shop, check it out and leave some comments on the video about how shitty it looks!

Only looks moderately shitty, and it would be great if YT linking on this forum weren't broken again. Are you sure that's not a 90s Ford engine? I mean, those steel bolts forever in a crazy aluminum bracket is sort of their thing.

Pretty cool shop, but I really want to know if the Alfa was actually in for service or if you guys just staged the cool cars.

The Alfa and E32 are mine, the E36 is my partner Khalil's. Our parking lot was getting redone so we couldn't have any cars outside, and since neither the Alfa or 7 run at the moment, they got the most out-of-the-way positions over the weekend.

Sweet, good to see another shop open up around here. Leo told me yesterday you're a partner to the Dockweiler Meet, that should definitely help get the word out for a new business! Will you personally be there?

My A/C system could use a look at, after I fix a few odds and ends. I'll keep you in mind!

Yep! We are donating a couple prizes for the raffle, and we should both be in attendance. I'm not sure if Leo is keeping the prizes a surprise or not, but they should be useful for the people in attendance.

Let us know about the AC!
